A visit to our Museum might!

Visit the Linthouse, a historical building teeming with character, it was originally built in 1872 as an engine shop for Alexander Stephens and sons shipyard. It was dismantled in 1988 and rebuilt here in Irvine in 1991.

It is now home to the story of Scotland’s Maritime legacy.

We are open 7 days a week, 10am to 4pm!

Up to THREE kids go FREE with every paying adult or concession.

𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 - 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗔. 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿

This book concentrates solely on the graceful wooden boats, large and small, regarded by many to be the best-looking boats of all. Many boats are photographed at sea, while other views range from repairs being carried out to the more melancholy sight of beautiful craft being cut up. Boats were once scrapped only due to old age, but sadly political factors now often dictate the destruction of the classic wooden craft included here.

You can pick this book up in the giftshop, open daily 10am until 4pm!

Join us tomorrow from 10am, Share and Repair Irvine will be at the Scottish Maritime Museum to help you breathe new life into your well-loved items!

Do you have favourite clothes that need mending (not altering), soft toys or small ornaments that need repairing, or small electrical items that have stopped working? If it can fit in a Bag for Life, bring it to the Museum for our volunteers to take a look.

We'll do our best to help you keep it in use!

Embedding Health and Wellbeing in Museums

Join GEM in partnership with CHWA for an exciting in-person event at the Scottish Maritime Museum.

The day will include an overview of the Working Together project, an 18-month Creative Health programme co-delivered by CHWA and GEM, as well as an exploration of how health and wellbeing can be embedded within museums.

Visit the Museum and tour Scottish Maritime History in the Linthouse building.

Take a guided tour to our fitting shed to see a Working Triple Expansion Steam Engine and go back in time 100 years to the Shipyard Workers Flat. All included in your admission ticket!

Tour times are 11am and 2pm*

To celebrate World Ocean Day this year, join us on 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲, 𝟭𝟭𝗮𝗺 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝟯𝗽𝗺 for a FREE drop in workshop.

Help us create posters that celebrate our oceans and encourage us all to project the incredible creatures that inhabit them.

This workshop will be at the giftshop next to Puffers Café Bistro, fun for all ages!
