Today is Wear a Hat Day!

Which means get your favourite hat on, help raise awareness and make a donation to Brain Tumour Research to help fund their vital work.

For the last year we’ve been supporting friend of the craft shop Glenn Campbell with his campaign raising funds for by donating 20% of the proceeds from all of our hat sales and collecting donations from customers in store.

Glenn threw himself into fundraising and mountain climbing when he was diagnosed with a tumour in 2023, and we’re hoping to join him when he comes to Mull to climb Ben More later this year.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease.

You can help boost the campaign by making a donation to or, if you’re in need of a hat, ours will be continuing to raise funds till the end of April.

I’m glad to have winter behind us. Depending on your state of mind it can be a wonderfully quiet season providing an opportunity for islanders to reacquaint themselves with each other and the island while being entertained by spectacular, powerful weather.
Or, it can be a long, wet, miserable slog with opportunities for escape hampered by storms and broken transport links. This one felt more like the latter.

That said, here’s a roundup of pics which might indicate that it wasn’t as bad as I remember.

Day 25: Happy Christmas!!! The final day of our advent window is an Iona Wool cake …even down to its sprinkles!! The resident and returning crew are all assembled for the party with our award winning star bakers Anna and Eve (2024 Winner of the Bunessan Show’s Miss Betty Logan Memorial Challenge Cup no less) presenting the cake!🎂 The Crafts Shop is more than just a 60 year old building it’s the full team (past and present) who make it a wonderful place to work and party! (See if you can spot who’s who in the Advent window.)

Day 19: This year the Craft Shop turns 60! In celebration of our big birthday our friend and supplier Hannah has created us a very special Birthday card!🤩👏 ..even the friendly wee Robin made it onto the card!

Day 17: In this year’s Advent window we’ve been assembling the Craft Shop Crew in teddy form to celebrate the Craft Shop’s 60th Birthday teddy bears picnic style. Today Mia’s arrived in the form of their childhood bat wearing a jumper made by Mia’s mum . Mia’s creative talents have transformed this year’s advent window…from beautifully sewn Iona tweed caps, hand crocheted Iona Wool accessories to hand painted coffees and more to come. Mia can be a little camera shy but for today we’ll put them centre stage in the window…luckily it’s a rainy day so you can’t actually see in the window, so no need to be too embarrassed!!😅👏
