Bede's World

Bede's World Bede's World in Jarrow is a great day out for everyone with a range of areas to explore! Bede spent the rest of his life in the monastery, dying in 735 AD.

Bede was born in 673 AD and at the age of 7 moved into the monastery at Wearmouth-Jarrow, entrusted to the care of its founder, Benedict Biscop. Bede worked as a scholar and teacher and wrote extensively about the Bible to clarify it for his own, and for others, understanding. He is best known for his work, 'The Ecclesiastical History of the English People' (731 AD). This book is our primary sourc

e for understanding the beginnings of the English people and the coming of Christianity - it was also the first book in history to use the AD dating system. Come to Bede's World to find out more about Bede, his work and monastic life in medieval Northumbria. http://www.bedesworld.co.uk/blog/
