Kegworth Heritage Centre

Kegworth Heritage Centre Page dedicated to Kegworth Heritage Centre (formerly Kegworth Village Association and Museum)

The origins of the museum started in 1971, when a group of prominent people in the village formed the “Kegworth Village Association”, which was a charitable organisation whose purpose was to raise funds ultimately for the creation of a village museum. The current museum building was finally purchased in 1990, which was formerly part of a series of farmyard barns and cowsheds. Once the building ref

urbishment was complete, Kegworth Museum was opened in 1992, as a charitable organisation. The two charities were later merged to become a single organisation known as “Kegworth Village Association and Museum”. Last year - 2017, was the 25th Anniversary of the museum, and since the “Village Association” part is now defunct (as there is now a different village group that organises events) we have changed our name to “Kegworth Heritage Centre”. First and foremost, we have a number of permanent displays of historical items. In addition to these permanent displays, we also have two further temporary displays, which are changed each year to different topics. Secondly, we also have a lot of historical reference material in our archives, both written and photographic, which people can read, browse, or use in-depth for research such as for family history. These include census records, parish birth marriage and death records, and an extensive collection of 8000+ photos. Thirdly, we also organise occasional events such as school visits, guided historical walks around the village, and until last year, an annual village Easter market event, for which the museum revived an ancient charter. Running the Easter Market has now been passed on to the One Kegworth Events Group.

We're really pleased to announce that you can now contact us directly from our website, a facility we had to remove some time ago because of spammers. But it's back and better than before.

If you have items that you're thinking about donating this is now the best way to initiate a conversation with us and send a photo of the item!

Help requested: At the Heritage Centre we have a massive (2.5m high, 2m wide) OS map from the late 1880s/early 1900s which is in desperate need of restoration. It is linen backed, wax (or similar) coated and attached to wooden poles top and bottom. In our records we can see that it was donated by someone from Nottingham Road in 2009, but no other info has been provided. Does anyone have any idea what this map was used for or any other stories about it?

A huge cheer for everyone who came to visit us on Sunday (even if some of you may have been press-ganged over the doorstep). It was our best day of the season and thanks to your generosity we can now get our new leaflets over to the printers.

We are grateful to the support from Kegworth Markets and we are happy to continue to work with you and other businesses in the village to support the September event!

With the second Kegworth Markets event taking place this weekend and its amazing line up of stalls and participants, don't forget that we will be open to coincide with the market from 10:00am until 14:00.

It's not much further from the Red Lion or the Coach House so why not take those extra few steps to come and visit us and then stop off to rest your feet and enjoy a pint. Not only is the extra walk good for you, but a recent research has found that visiting a museum or heritage site also has a positive health effect!

Last week we were absolutely delighted to welcome over thirty pupils from Kegworth Primary School for their first visit in over seven years.

There were three groups of 4-5 year olds, accompanied by members of staff, and they were an absolute delight. It was so wonderful to hear the whoops of joy when they found pictures in the treasure hunt or dinosaurs in the "archeology pits".

We hope this is the start of a blossoming new relationship with one of our nearest neighbours! If other local schools are interested in visiting please contact us!

Please note that this image has been partially AI-generated. No photographs of the children were taken at the event, so they have been added digitally for illustrative purposes

We got off to a great start for our 2026 season. Special thanks to our budding archaeologist from Gloucestershire and our super sleuths on the treasure hunt.

Don't forget we're open on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday from 10am until 2pm. There's lots of new stuff to see about our local farms and the Kegworth Carnival and we have new audio and video material in place. There are also new fun things for the kids - a farm related Treasure Hunt and a chance to have a go at digging for treasures!

Do come and visit!

REGARDING OUR BAY WINDOW PROBLEM

We’d like to thank everyone for their recommendations and special thanks to the four businesses that came to visit and provide a quote. It is great to see so many builders operating in the village and I wish we could support you all.

We have now secured the necessary funding to proceed and have made a decision and will contact the chosen contractor in the next few days.
