Friday 17th April witnessed a major step forward in the overhaul of ‘Bahamas’.
This was the removal of the boiler from the frames, so allowing a full boiler inspection to assess what repairs are required.
The lift was straightforward and there were no obvious signs of concern.
The opportunity was taken the following day to clean the inside of the frames. The next task will be removal of all motion parts for inspection.

It’s two years since we published our book on Bahamas, and to much acclaim by reviewers and readers alike. Copies are still available from our website https://bahamas45596.co.uk/product/bahamas-the-story-of-a-steam-locomotive-by-peter-w-skellon/
And direct through our museum shop at Ingrow.
All money received goes directly towards caring for our collection, and in particular Bahamas, which is currently undergoing overhaul at Tyseley.

Bahamas – the story of a steam locomotive, by Peter W Skellon, published by the Bahamas Locomotive Society. This is both an in-depth look at the history of the locomotive and of the people involved with the engine throughout its revenue-earning career and subsequent preservation era. Set against t...

As part of the National Lottery Open Week our Engine Shed museum at Ingrow will welcome anyone holding a lottery ticket free entry during this coming weekend of 14/15th March. This is our way of acknoweldging and thanking all those who support the National Lottery.
We have been fortunate to benefit from Lottery support on three occasions.
The first was in 1996 to help fund the creation of our museum at Ingrow.
The second was in 2004 to overhaul the historic LNWR locomotive No.1054 'Coal Tank' and use this as a long term learning resource; the latter provided by the publication of he award-winning book 'Bashers, Gadgets abd Mourners'.
The third award was in 2013 for the overhaul of 45596 Bahamas and the provision of an Educational and Learning facility. This provided the opportunity to employ a full time officer to oversee the development of opportunities for school visits and other local community offerings through a dedicated facility, the Learning Coach.

Free entry will be granted to the Engine Shed Museum at Ingrow, in West Yorkshire, to visitors able to produce a valid National Lottery ticket on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March.…

😊 All smiles as we steam into the weekend!

Trains are running, and the 138-year-old Coal Tank will be hauling our steam services for two full days , well worth a journey… if you ask us 😉

There’s more to enjoy too, with the Diesel Railbus also in service, offering a different way to travel the line.

Looking ahead to the weekend… 🚂

Built in 1888, saved from the scrapman during WWII, and somehow sent for scrap twice, No. 1054 is a true survivor. After 70 years on the national network, she lives on in preservation.

This weekend, LNWR's ‘Coal Tank’ will be hauling trains through the Worth Valley once again, with thanks to our friends at the Bahamas Locomotive Society for making this possible.
