☕ Over a mug of tea…

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming David to the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum. He bought in a collection of fishing rods and equipment that belonged to his grandfather, Thomas Allan.

Our newest volunteer, Rhonda, spent time chatting with David about his grandfather and the collection.

Donations like this are particularly special because it’s not just the fishing tackle we want to preserve — it’s the stories of the people behind it too.

If you have fishing related items that you feel might be suitable for the museum, we would love to hear from you. We’re also very interested in old photographs, fishing stories, memories, documents, fishing records and other pieces of Tweed fishing history that could help us preserve these stories for future generations.

Please get in touch with the museum if you have something you would like to share or donate.

🎣 Every rod, photograph and fishing tale has a story — and we’d like to help keep those stories alive.

Meet Thomas – our newest museum volunteer 👋

We’re delighted to welcome Thomas to the volunteer team at the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum in Kelso.

Thomas is currently working his way through River Tweed fishing reports dating from 1930 to 1947, helping us uncover and record information about fishing on the river during this period.

Thomas also has a particular interest in Kelso Abbey and local history, making him a great addition to our growing volunteer team.

There is a huge amount of history within the Museum’s collection still waiting to be explored, and projects like this will help us share more of those stories with our visitors.

Welcome to the team, Thomas!

Isobella Hermiston (often spelled Isabella Hermiston) was a legendary, veteran Scottish fly dresser from Kelso renowned for crafting world-famous classic salmon flies.

Her exceptional skill sustained a prominent local export industry with her flies shipped from the banks of the Tweed to anglers across the globe https://youtu.be/3haTXem2umw?si=BeFExHKVh8NULWfa
