KettFest is fast approaching... and Alfred East Gallery is planning something special🙂

Using Kettering's art collection as inspiration, we're recreating James Fitton's "January Pantomime" as a living, breathing walk-in art installation. Step inside the art as actors from Laugh Out Loud Theatre Company bring this anarchic scene to life in the Manor House Gardens.

Created during World War II, Fitton’s lithograph was part of a wartime initiative to boost morale during a sombre moment in history, "bringing the best to as many people as we can to cheer them on to better times”❤️ We're excited to bring Fitton's art into the Gardens and give the people of Kettering something to smile about😊

There's lots more on happening on 13th June, including Kettering Library's amazing Spoken Word Stage. More info in the comments👇

Today, we say goodbye to Paul and Fin 👋

Born and raised in Kettering, they’ve been working as labourers on our renovation project since last summer. From stripping the roof at the very beginning, to loading the new slates ready for installation, they’ve been involved from start to finish.

Today is their last day. It’s been great to have Kettering lads like these helping to restore their town’s Library and Gallery. A massive thanks for all your hard work and best of luck for the future😊

100 years ago, a new exhibition opened in Alfred East Gallery.

In this newspaper clipping from our archives, Kate Pierce can be seen greeting a rather dapper Earl Spencer and his wife for the exhibition opening. We love the clothes in these photos, and we love the flower seller❤️💐

Kate is in the first image, holding a black bag. This was one of many exhibitions she curated in the Gallery during her 20+ years as curator, a trailblazing career that saw her become one of Kettering's unsung heroes.

In case you missed it, you can learn more about Kate here: https://bit.ly/3Na5E4j

Shout out to Bradley and Jarrod from Apex Scaffolding Ltd and the team from County Lifting Services Ltd for their help last week🫡

They’re definitely not scared of heights! Incredible to watch the expertise involved in removing Kettering Library’s scaffolding. Excellent teamwork and something you don’t see every day on Sheep Street👏👏👏

After 121 years, the cupola on Kettering Library had seen better days. Weathered and worn, it was starting to look its age.

Until now. As part of our renovation project, the cupola has had a glow up✨ A key feature of our town’s skyline, we wanted to get this right. With rotten timber, rusted screws, and elements lost to the British weather, it was a challenge. But now, after expert restoration and plenty of TLC, it’s closer to the glory days of 1904.

It’s even had a fresh lick of paint – the original colour from over a century ago❤️

When our walk into work passes a fantastic new mural, we just had to stop for a chat🙂

Sally from Kettering Street Art and Daisy from DaZe MaDe were busy painting when Billie from Alfred East Gallery said hi 👋 This is the centrepiece mural for Art on the Route - a brilliant new initiative that brings art out into the open and encourages Kettering folk to get walking.

You can find it in "the dip" on Stamford Road - it's still taking shape but already looking colourful and bright, something really positive to brighten up our town.

Leave the car at home and go check it out. Great to see collaboration from Brightwayz, Laugh Out Loud Theatre Company and Northamptonshire Community Foundation that brings art into the community❤️
