Did you know you can enjoy a Blacksmithing Experience at the County Museum? 🔥

Using an original Victorian forge - relocated to the museum from Bewdley in the 60s - try your hand at traditional blacksmithing under the guidance of experienced tutor Paul Ashmore.

This is suitable for complete beginners, ages 11+.

You can book online for Fridays 6 and 13 November - or get in touch for a gift voucher or to arrange a bespoke date that works for you. Book two tickets together for a £20 discount.

With just a few days left until Saturday's Captivating Costume talk and tour, we're heading into the exhibition to discover Heather's favourite object... 💃

“My favourite object has to be from the Captivating Costume gallery as there are so many beautiful dresses, shoes and accessories on display which explore changes in fashion through time.

Amongst these is a lovely beaded and embroidered bag which dates to the early 1900s. I’ve chosen this because of the wonderful design, the floral centrepiece is just so fine and elegant, and the shimmering beads alongside the golden swirled pattern complete this dainty bag perfectly!

It’s a joy to be able to view exquisite items such as this as part of the exhibition.”

Favourite objects in the County Museum - chosen by our fantastic team! ✨

Jonathan's choice is these hop stilts, perfect for late August when the hop-picking season begins.

“I wouldn’t want anyone to think that I only chose the hop stilts because I enjoy the occasional glass of b**r, but they’re a real reminder of all the hard work and skill that went into producing one of life’s simple pleasures.

I wonder how many people at their local pub gave a thought to the men standing twelve feet in the air on stilts like these, hanging the strings for the hops to grow up and then again during the harvest?

With just a couple of straps on their boots and a belt around their waist it’s fair to say they wouldn’t meet modern health and safety regulations. So, for them and all the men, women and children that worked on the hop farms… Cheers!”
