Are you on Half Term duties in the Kidderminster area this Thursday morning (28th) between 10.30am and 12.30pm? If so, you are *very welcome indeed* to come over to the Museum for a FREE crafting event. Oh, and adults without children are welcome, too 😀.

Our volunteer, Jane, will be teaching card-weaving, and everyone will get to take home their hand-woven piece. Scroll these pics to get some inspiration.

The Museum is on the Morrisons site in Green Street. 💚

*huge thanks to Jane for offering this activity 👏

It feels rather ironic to be advertising our FREE Warm and Welcome group on a day that has broken records for the hottest May day ever... however, the Museum is actually a deliciously cool air-conditioned space. You may want to come for that reason alone!

This Thursday (28th) morning (10.30am-12.30pm) we are going to be joined by one of our volunteers, the lovely and talented Jane Preece who will be teaching some simple weaving techniques🧵. If you'd like a go, you can weave a sample to take home. If weaving is not your thing, there will still be plenty of room for a chat, a cuppa☕️ and a biscuit, or a wander round the Museum at your leisure. All welcome.

As ever, huge thanks to Wyre Forest District Council and Kidderminster BID with this venture. 👍

Our FREE Warm and Welcome Group meets tomorrow (Thursday 21 May) in the usual place - the ground floor of the Museum of Carpet - and the usual time - 10.30am to 12.30pm. And, also as usual, everyone is VERY WELCOME INDEED 😀

🔥This week, back by popular demand, we have a talk by the Hereford and Worcester Fire Service. 🔥There's also going to be a chance to use a virtual reality headset to simulate a real life driving test experience. The Fire Service offer the community so much: free smoke and heat alarms; boiler checks for those who are struggling; and safe driving advice. Do come along to learn more, have fun, meet new people, and enjoy a cuppa and a biscuit with us, too.☕

Our volunteer, Dave, got a chance to practice his after-dinner speech-making skills recently, when he gave a talk to Bewdley Rotary Club. As former Head of the History department at King Charles I School, Dave knows how to keep a rowdy class in order, and no detentions were issued on this occasion. 🤣

Seriously, though, Dave knows his stuff and is a great advocate for the history of our town. You may see some of his work around Kidderminster, hidden in plain sight (see pics for clue). We are really lucky that he is one of our team of volunteer speakers, all of whom give their time freely to help the Museum tell Kidderminster's story.

On this lovely sunny Worcestershire morning, here is your weekly reminder that our Free Warm and Welcome Group meets tomorrow at *10.30am - 12.30pm* on the ground floor of the Museum in Green Street, Kidderminster. The entrance is just to the left of Morrison's cafe (as you look at it from outside the building).

You are ALL very welcome, whether you have been before or whether you are just trying it out. There's no pressure to stay for the whole time. Have a cuppa of tea or coffee, a chat or a wander around the galleries. And if you have ideas for future activities or speakers do share them with us. Our last week's speaker proved so popular that he is returning soon for another talk. So keep following for more details.

Huge thanks to everyone who has supported this venture so far, especially Kidderminster BID and Wyre Forest District Council 😀

We loved hosting a group visit from these conference delegates the other day. Tap to enjoy some great pics from Worcestershire Industrial Archaeology & Local History Society, including videos of our Wilton Jacquard and handlooms in action.

If you belong to a group which might enjoy a bespoke visit to the Museum, please get in touch to discuss your group's interests and needs. Our volunteers pull out all the stops to make group visits fun and informative events.

Museums have many different roles and responsibilities. One of them is to ensure that the wider scholarly community has access to (and knowledge of) the objects and stories in its care. Over the years, representatives of our Museum here in Kidderminster have spoken at many universities, colleges and conferences.

Recently, our Chair of Trustees, Geoff Gilbert, spoke at the South Wales & West England Regional Industrial Conference, held this year at Avoncroft Museum near Bromsgrove.

It was a fun and informative event, and a great opportunity to spread the word about Kidderminster's part in Britain's industrial history - the art, machinery, photographs, newspapers and other objects in our collection all help to tell that story.

Remembering Bernie Orme, 1944 - 2026

Some very talented and dedicated people were instrumental in helping the Museum to launch in 2012, and over the years we have had to say sad goodbyes to some of them. Recently, we had to do this for one of our first Wilton Jacquard weavers, Bernie Orme, who has passed away.

As many followers know, the Wilton loom is one of our star exhibits, and is a phenomenon to see and hear when it is in operation (scroll down for a great video). Bernie delighted in weaving on this loom, and put in many hours on behalf of the Museum. He had, in fact, spent much of his career as a weaver at Woodward Grosvenor Carpets - the company who owned the building the Museum is now housed in - so he was continuing in a way of life. Like many generations of Kidderminster people before him, working on the looms was second nature.

We send our condolences to Bernie's family and friends. Please enjoy these photos of him at the Wilton Jacquard loom, as well as him receiving his long-service award from Woodward Grosvenor Carpets.

This week's free Warm and Welcome Group is coming up (Thursday 23rd April) and we are keeping with the warm theme by welcoming Robin Douglas from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service. 🔥 Robin will speak to us about fire safety in the home. 🚒

As usual, the group is at *10.30am - 12.30pm* and you are ALL very welcome, whether you have been before or whether you are just trying it out. There's no pressure to stay for the whole time. Have a cuppa of tea or coffee, a chat or a wander around the galleries. And if you have ideas for future activities or speakers do share them with us.

Huge thanks to everyone who has supported this venture so far, especially Kidderminster BID and Wyre Forest District Council 😀.

This week's free Warm and Welcome Group is coming up! In addition to the usual cuppa, biscuits and chat, there will be a chance to learn the craft of quilling and to make some simple greetings cards. And quiet browsing time in the galleries, too.

All VERY welcome! Thursday 16th April 10.30am - 12.30pm.

Thanks, as ever, to Kidderminster BID and Wyre Forest District Council for their support of this venture. 👏
