North Norfolk this weekend. Eighteen hours of daylight.

Sunny walks around Sandringham Estate, fish and chips on Cromer seafront, steam train rides on the Poppyline North Norfolk Railway.

We basically live in a tourism brochure and most of us forget to read it.

A guest came to find me this morning looking genuinely concerned. A neighbouring dog had been barking at her dog mid-privacy break.

I said: "I'm sorry — mid what?"

"Privacy break," she said. Completely matter-of-fact. As if everyone says this.

I nodded like I understood and went to stand in a field and think about it.

I've heard dogs called fur babies, hound children, four-legged family members — but privacy break? That's a level of dog dignity I was not prepared for today.

Here's the thing though — guests who give their dog privacy breaks are exactly the kind of guests I love having here. Proper dog people. And their dogs always have the time of their lives.

All dogs welcome. Fields provided. Zero judgement.

There is a spot on Holme Beach where you can stand at the sea and know a path has been here for 2,000 years.

It follows the line of a Roman road — built around 61 AD, running all the way from the Suffolk border to Holme. People have been walking this exact route for two millennia. Which puts the Tuesday commute into perspective.

Our shepherd's huts are ten minutes from where that path ends.
