While big finds and bits of planes are fantastic it is often the smaller finds that help bring the men that served at King’s Cliffe to life. These two bottles were picked up at the weekend by one of the team.
A Parker’s ink bottle that would have been used in one of the many offices dotted around the communal site. The four little legs that stop it tipping over and the indentations and ridges that allow it to be held securely during use are nice touches.
The other bottle is a Drene Shampoo bottle. Drene was a popular brand during the war. Originally launched in the 1930s by Procter & Gamble. It was historically notable for being one of the first synthetic, non-soap shampoos. It must have been quite powerful as the bottle is tiny!
Both these bottles will be cleaned up and on display at the museum soon.

Freshly acquired by the museum is this concrete block used as a bicycle stand on the communal site at RAF King’s Cliffe. Found by our good friend Ziggy Best, we plan to install it outside the museum and use it to display a period bicycle.

Once again we will be inviting guests to our Summer Open Day on Sunday 9th August to attend in period clothes if they wish. We have had some wonderful outfits in the past and hope to see many more this year. Both civilian outfits and military uniforms welcome. However, Allied uniforms only.

All set up at the Oundle Vintage Festival. Come along and say hello.
