Each mural is etched freehand into powdered glaze, known as the Sgraffito Technique. Kim uses manufactured tiles then she adds a second glaze which she etches, freehand, before kiln firing for a second time at 1060 degrees. Plain tiles can be ordered from the manufacturers online. This makes a kitchen or bathroom project surprisingly affordable. Kim has been developing the designs for 4 years. Each mural is individually designed.
