Broughton House & Garden NTS

Broughton House & Garden NTS Home of painter E.A. Hornel (a 'Glasgow Boy') from 1901 until 1933, and his sister Tizzy until her death in 1950. An extensive garden with all year interest.

The house holds Hornel's pictures, vast collection of artefacts and furniture. Library. Archive. Right in the heart of Kirkcudbright, a pretty artists’ colony on the Solway Firth, this 18th-century Georgian house is the former home of Scottish painter E A Hornel, one of the Glasgow Boys. Painstakingly preserved and recreated, it’s a living museum of Hornel’s life and work, packed to the rafters wi

th his paintings and those of his contemporaries, as well as his vast library, which includes one of the world’s biggest collections of works by Robert Burns. Nestled behind the house, backing on to the River Dee, is Hornel’s beautiful garden. Greatly influenced by his love of Japan, it’s a curious and colourful mixture of Eastern and Western horticulture and sculpture that is a delight to explore.

Dumfries and Galloway! Whats Going on ?

Thrilled to be bringing our Good Old-Fashioned Ghost Hunt back to Broughton House & Garden NTS this June!

Taking place on the eve of the Summer Solstice, guests will spend six hours exploring Broughton and its many intriguing accounts — from shutters that won’t stay closed to mysterious footsteps, voices, unseen presences and more.

Delighted to be working with our friends at the National Trust for Scotland once again and, if our last event is anything to go by, this promises to be a truly memorable night!

**Saturday 20th June, 9pm–3am**
