The Midland Pullman is visiting again this Sunday 4th October having started its journey at Watford. This will be the last visit this year.

Please see published timings below and note that it is arriving later than the previous visits.

⏰ OPENING HOURS ⏰ October is here but we're still open!

This is the plan for autumn & winter
👉 We'll stay open 11-3 Monday to Saturday until the end of October
👉 Then it will be 11.30-1.30 until Christmas
👉 Closed in January 2027

The tradition of pipers welcoming special trains to Kyle, 53 years apart.
Let's hope we are still doing it in another 50 years time👍🤣

A busy day at the station back in 1973👍😁

Three pipers playing at Kyle of Lochalsh Station on 22 September 1973 when two special excursion trains, each comprising 11 coaches, were in the station at the same time. One was organised by the Wirral Rail Circle and the other by the West of England Division of BR. Both trains arrived with an hour of each other making the station the busiest it had ever been in peace time

How do you fancy getting a boat from Kyle to Portree? Or even Raasay? Looks like it was very popular in the 1930s. Shall we start a campaign to bring it back?!

Look closely and you can see the wooden destination sign above the gang plank. This is the T.S.M.V. Lochnevis, launched in 1934 for the Mallaig to Portree mail service and withdrawn in the 1960s.

Another great visit by the Midland Pullman to Kyle and our museum today.
The train started at Exeter in Devon.
Ruairidh entertained the passengers and added a special atmosphere during their visit.

We are sure they will all have lovely memories of their visit to Kyle and our museum.

Because we're a volunteer-run museum our opening hours are more limited than we would like but we've timed them to coincide with the busiest trains and we're open Monday - Saturday, 11 - 3.

The "original" (and best). Michael Palin's 1980 Great Railway Journey from London to Kyle of Lochalsh was on BBC on Saturday night. It is available on BBC iPlayer until the end of September.

We wonder if he still has the station nameboard?🤣

Self-confessed railway enthusiast Michael Palin travels from Euston in London to the Kyle of Lochalsh, along routes steeped in history.
