As a Christian Mum to three young children and wife to Student Pastor of a city-centre church, I started painting in May 2012 as a way of connecting with scripture and relaxing. After only two paintings, requests for commissions began, and so not wanting the art to be about ‘me’, but to point the focus back to God, I sought to find a name that would capture my passion for the Bible and the inspira

tion that comes from the ‘living word’. I have always loved the verses Isaiah 55:10-13 and felt especially that verse 11 captured something about what I am trying to do when I paint:

As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands. This will be for the Lord’s renown,
for an everlasting sign,
that will endure forever. Isaiah 55:10-13

It was from Isaiah 55:11 that the name ‘fiftyfive11art’ was born. I pray that the art will be something “for the Lord’s renown”, that helps others to look to, and take delight, in Him. I love painting commissions for individuals using their favourite verses or parts of scripture that are special to them and would love to hear from you if you would like your own piece to hang at home, work or to give as a gift.
