Ivan is a retired veterinary surgeon who has become a pastel artist. He was introduced to pastels as a teenager by a friend of his fatherβs and in fact he still have remnants of his first set of pastels. He passed A level art at 16, then went on to complete a veterinary science degree - his understanding of animals allows him to add that something extra to his artwork.
Ivan has completed a large
number of his detailed and realistic artworks in the past 20 years, many of which can be seen on his website and social media. Ivan feels that pastels have a great vibrancy and richness of colour that is often under appreciated. He work largely from photographs and undertake commission work as well as create artwork in a wide range of subject matter. Ivan likes to give each piece a three-dimensional effect and detail is of importance to him - each 12in by 16in artwork takes him 25 to 30 hours to complete. Ivan admires the work of many artists including the Impressionists, Pre-Raphaelites, David Shepherd, Simon Coombes and many of his contemporaries. He has exhibited widely in Herefordshire and his next exhibition will be during Herefordshire Art (H-art) week in September 7th to 15th 2024 at his home in Wigmore.
