Polish Bomber Squadrons Centre - RAF Ingham Royal Air Force Station Ingham was a grass airfield, used mainly by No1 Group, Bomber Command, Royal

The airfield and those who served from there had almost been forgotten in time. in 2003, Geoff Burton, (the founding member), became fascinated by the airfield and its hidden history and started to research the airfield’s past. This culminated in an Exhibition held on 1st May 2010 at Fillingham Village Hall. The Exhibition received over 200 visitors that day and the interest from the local communi

ty was remarkable. As a result, an enthusiastic group of local volunteers got together and formed the RAF Ingham Heritage Group on 25th November 2010. Their aim is to preserve the memories and deeds of those who had served and flown from the airfield during the war years by renovating the mess hall and cook house on the site and eventually open to the public as a memorial and museum to the Polish aircrew and groundcrew of bomber command who fought and gave their lives for our country. 21 Jun 43 Departure of No 199 Sqn to RAF Lakenheath.

24 Nov 44 The Air Ministry decide to change the name of RAF Ingham to RAF Cammeringham, to avoid confusion with another RAF Ingham in Suffolk.


04 Dec 44 Departure of 1481 (Bomber) Gunnery Flt to RAF Marham and 1687 (Bomber) Defence Training Flt to RAF Scampton.


Early 1945 Airfield Closed to flying. Placed on Care & Maintenance.


11 Jun 45 Departure of 2799 Sqn RAF Regt to RAF Fiskerton.


18 Jun 45 Stn transferred from No 1 Group to No 24 Technical Training Command.


09 Jul 45 Stn name changed to No 16 School of Technical Training (Polish), RAF Cammeringham.


27 Sep 45 Air Vice Marshall M. Jzychi, Commander of Polish Air Force, inspected the Stn.


14 Nov 45 Formation of No 4 Personnel Holding Unit (Polish), No 28 Group, RAF Cammeringham.


14 Nov 45 Arrival of Polish Film Unit from RAF Pinewood.


25 Feb 46 Release of airfield for immediate cultivation.

The Greater Lincolnshire & Rutland regional Tourism Excellence Awards were held on Friday 28th February. The Polish Bomber Squadrons Centre was a finalist in 'The New Tourism Business of the Year' category and our very own Geoff Burton was an individual finalist in 'The Outstanding Contribution Award'. Although we were not winners of the categories, we can be very proud of the fact we have been recognised for our excellence within the tourism industry.

With the frosts gone, it was a great opportunity for our Polish friends to join our regular volunteers in preparing the ground for our new Remembrance Garden. A great effort by all, in some poor conditions.
And as is customary, our Polish friends ended the day with BBQ.
