Step back in time with this fascinating view of Linlithgow’s West End.

This historic photograph captures the old Cross Keys Inn alongside the West End Café, located on the site later occupied by Cabrelli’s fish and chip shop.

In the foreground, you can spot the New Well, one of several public wells that once provided fresh water to the people of Linlithgow before modern plumbing transformed daily life.

Images like this offer a glimpse into how familiar streets and buildings have evolved over the years while still retaining their connection to the town’s rich history.

Do you remember Cabrelli’s, or have any stories about the West End? We’d love to hear your memories in the comments.

Pop in and see more at our Life on Linlithgow High Street exhibition on now.

We carried out a quick recce to the Scottish Crannog Centre today as we begin exploring a potential collaboration on a new Iron Age exhibition.

It was a great opportunity to learn more about life on the loch and how people lived, worked and crafted within these remarkable dwellings. With crannogs believed to have existed on Linlithgow Loch, there’s a strong local connection we’re keen to explore further.

We’re excited about the potential to bring these stories to life here at Linlithgow Museum—watch this space as plans develop!

Every part of Linlithgow's landscape holds stories – and so do its people! From the earliest settlers to our civic leaders, countless individuals have left their mark on our town, often deeply connected to the land around them.

Perhaps it was a farmer working the fertile fields, a craftsperson using local materials, or a family whose home overlooked a significant view. Their lives, struggles, and triumphs are all part of our shared heritage.

Drop by the museum and let these local voices from the past inspire you. It's free to visit!

As spring brings new life, we wonder: How did Linlithgow celebrate this vibrant season in days gone by? Our ancestors had wonderful traditions and gatherings, often tied to the rhythms of the land and community life.

Perhaps it was a spring market bustling with fresh produce, or a community event marking the return of warmer days. These moments wove the fabric of our town's history, connecting people to each other and to the changing environment.

Share your favourite spring memory or tradition from Linlithgow! We love hearing your stories.
