Who remembers the General Wolfe Inn?

It is not often that we have bottles from a company which sits within our recording period, but then continues trading until the beginning of the 21st century.
This pub needs no introduction to the locals in St Austell and still stands today as a Grade II listed building on Bodmin Road.
The earliest record of the General Wolfe Inn is in August 1785, with Samuel Pentecost running the pub at the same time as the loss of his father Richard.
There are various bottles and flagons from this Inn and Hotel, with names such as Job (1873-early 20th century approx) and Bramble.

This is a button lid from J Sambell of Redruth who was a chemist, grocer and tea dealer in Redruth.
He ran his business on Fore Street, Redruth for many years until 1883 and later moved to Victoria, Australia and died in 1906.
He was married first to Elizabeth and then later to Mary, of which both have the surname Winn and we can only assume they were related in some way.

G Dixon & Sons Ltd of Truro….

Here is a rare opportunity to share an image of an early advertising card. And we have some bottles from the same company.

George Dixon & Sons of Truro.
The family company started as a Grocer by George Dixon Senior who were based on St Nicholas St.
His son, also called George Dixon (d 1920) joined the business and later became a merchant on Malpas Road and lived at Poltisco House.
We have found records of the business trading in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
We would be interested to hear if any of his family are still living in Truro, as we believe his brother Robert remained in the area.

Can you help us research this company? 🧐

This is the first time these 2 ginger b**rs have been photographed together as they are incredibly rare. A year ago we shared an image which included the ch*****ne shaped bottle on the right. This bottle was dug during a team dig and was damaged. It has been restored. The one on the left is newly found this weekend.
This company still remains a mystery to us despite all efforts using our research channels. We are hoping with our newly gained followers over the past year, someone might just be able to help. Does anyone know anything about The City Beverage Company?
