This is an ambitious project and we need your help to discover the bottles.

Edward John Windsor came from Canada and moved to Liskeard, Cornwall.
He traded in partnership with Thomas Allen as a wine and spirit merchant under the trading name of Allen & Windsor. In 1876 the company dissolved mutually and Edward Windsor traded solely selling aerated water. He attended Truro Diocese conferences and later moved to Exmouth where he was a vicar. We have found articles which refer to his travels to India and New Zealand.

To celebrate Helston’s Flora Day we thought we would share an image of this small flagon from the on Meneague St in Helston. We have found reference to William Curnow as the innkeeper in 1881. He was born in Penzance, married Elizabeth and died in 1889 at the age of 53. This pub still remains open today.

You may have noticed that we have launched a Crowdfunder…

Here is a snapshot of our project in numbers:
📍21 locations - we will create a page dedicated to 21 locations across Cornwall, celebrating the bottles and the heritage related to that area.
📸 500 bottles - we will record and document at least 500 bottles, sharing them on the Cornish Bottle Archive website. These bottles are not currently recorded.
📜 1870 - 1939 - we will focus on recording bottles dating in this period.
🖼️ 72 - Over 12 months we plan to deliver 72 exhibition days in various locations across Cornwall.
🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️2 - the project is led by our archive team of 2 local people who are proud to be born and bred in Cornwall.

If you would like to make a donation you can follow the link our bio or in the comments.

Our Liskeard exhibition is open….

Our 2nd exhibition for 2026 - celebrating 50 years since the last major Cornish bottle exhibition in Cornwall - is officially open until 30th May.

Thankyou to the museum and private collectors for helping to pull together a selection of bottles that have not been seen together for a long time. This truly is a special dedication to Liskeard’s bottle heritage.

The work we have done until now has been delivered on a shoestring. We would like to continue our research bringing Cornwall’s heritage to its community and celebrating it through our online museum. To make this happen we are launching a Crowdfunder.

This will help us to:
💫 Continue delivering exhibitions and talks
💫 Visit and record bottles in museums and private collections
💫 Developing a website sharing the bottles and research we have collated
💫 Commission a locally illustrated map to identify the 20 localities we are focussing on

We would be incredible grateful for any donations, as we cannot deliver the project to the standard that it deserves without your help. Thankyou from the CBA Archive Team 🙏
