We have never shared a photo of a Grocer’s storage jar before.
We were lucky enough to find an article celebrating the life of its owner. We hope you enjoy reading about Thomas Lockett of Wadebridge.

We would also like to take this opportunity to talk about our Crowdfunder which is LIVE for another 38 days.
We have big plans for this year and next. All donations, even if it were a £1 would be gratefully received. Community is at the heart of our project - we cannot wait to share the online bottle archive with you once our mission is complete… recording all Cornish known bottles dating upto 1939.

Today we are fortunate enough to share something a little different. This is a quart size flat sided flagon.
Richard Best was a wine and spirit merchant from St Columb. He was born in 1804 and died in 1870 at the age of 67.
He lived at 177 Fore Street with his wife Mary and daughter Catherine.

In the week leading up to installing this exhibition, a local reached out to us and gifted a broken example of this particular bottle. We were thrilled to have this…
And then on the day we curated and set up the exhibition, we discovered a whole example in their collection. What a great discovery and a beautiful bottle.

This hamilton bottle reads The Fountain Head, Aerated Water, Liskeard

James Henry Alger of the Fountain Inn, was born in 1844 in St Austell and died in Liskeard, 1883 and was buried at Lanchard Cemetery. He married Jane Condy Hockaday in 1874.

Here we have a premier patent bottle that was kindly brought into for us to document.

The bottle embossing displays: Parker, Liskeard.

Josiah William Parker was born in 1836 in Northamptonshire. He married F***y Lewin in Wellingborough in 1857. He later moved to Liskeard where he traded.

Did you know the last major bottle exhibition was in 1976 in Truro.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary we are touring bottles from private and museum collections in a series of exhibitions throughout 2026
And … to top it off we have set ourselves a mission to record all Cornish known bottles dating up to 1939, to share with our community local and international via our online museum.
If each one of our followers on social media donated £10, we would be over halfway to our target of £10k.

We would like to thank everyone who attended our event yesterday. We had an amazing time meeting you all and discovering the bottles you bought along. Here is just a sample of the bottles which were shared with us to photograph.
We are forever grateful to our community and new friends. Without your support we could not complete our bottle archive mission.

Edward John Windsor came from Canada and moved to Liskeard, Cornwall.
He traded in partnership with Thomas Allen as a wine and spirit merchant under the trading name of Allen & Windsor. In 1876 the company dissolved mutually and Edward Windsor traded solely selling aerated water. He attended Truro Diocese conferences and later moved to Exmouth where he was a vicar. We have found articles which refer to his travels to India and New Zealand.
