Such a fun day in the museum today with our home education children discovering more about what clothing was like during the 1940s to the beginning of the 1950s.
From dressing up to getting up close with both museum objects and objects bought in and shared by our participants from their own family histories and personal collections.
We discussed how government rationing challenged the everyday lives of people. Explored designers of the day and discovered where some of our classic clothing shapes came from.
Everyone then had ago at designing their own Vogue magazine covers while taking inspiration from replica images.

Our next sessions will be on Monday 6th July when we’ll be looking at World War I. Full details can be found on our website.

There’s a few spaces left on today’s workshops so be sure to book on so you don’t miss out!!

This Monday's home education session with volunteers Lizzie and Hollie is Fashion Through the 1940's to Post War Britain.
This is a fascinating topic which looks at how rationing in Britain affected fashion, through real life examples we'll explore how clothing changed. We'll look at copies from replica publications of the day and view historic garments up close.
Children will then have the opportunity to create their own magazine cover based on what they have seen and learnt.
Plus anyone attending is very welcome to come dressed up in 1940's fashion styles - Hollie and Lizzie will be dressed for the occasion but there is no pressure to come in costume!

Sessions run 10:30-12:00 for 5-10 year olds and 13:30-15:00 for 11-16 year olds

The session cost is £5 per child participating plus Eventbrites booking fee or contact the tourist information centre to book direct. Bookings on Eventbrite close 1 hour before sessions start.

Our home education children had great fun today with our Watercolours for Emily workshop dedicated to the memory of local humanitarian Emily Hobhouse who passed away 100 years ago today.

Raised in St Ive near Liskeard, Emily Hobhouse lived a remarkable life and left a country that was not her own a legacy that would last long past her lifetime. You can learn more about Emily as part of our In Reflection exhibition which has been curated with our friends from The Story of Emily .

Watercolours For Emily Painting Workshop tomorrow (Saturday 6th June).

A special hands-on workshop dedicated to the centenary of the death of local pacifist and humanitarian Emily Hobhouse who passed away 100 years ago on the 8th of June. Emily's hobby was watercolour painting so it seems fitting to hold a watercolour painting workshop to celebrate her life and work.

We will have copies of some of her paintings on display plus you can see the exhibition about her life which has been specially curated by our friends at The Story of Emily in our newly refurbished Rapson Gallery as part of our In Reflection exhibition.

10:30-12:00
£5 per participant (plus booking fee if booking via Eventbrite)

There are still spaces left on tomorrows workshop for anyone age 6-100 who wants to have ago at some watercolour painting. All materials provided.

Book now via the eventbrite link or call into the Tourist Information Centre to book direct
