🎉 Just 1 month to go! 🎉

The countdown is on to our exciting 100 Years of Dresses exhibition, created in collaboration with Prom Ally.

Prom Ally is a Community Interest Company (CIC) that provides free prom dress and suit loans to young people across the UK who might not otherwise be able to afford them, helping ensure everyone can enjoy their special day.

👗 Step through a century of fashion as you explore 10 stunning outfits spanning the 1920s to the 2020s, displayed throughout the museum alongside our permanent collections.

🐾 Anubis gives our Victorian Walk two paws up! 🐶🏛️

This handsome history hound joined us to learn all about how Llandudno became the "Queen of Welsh Resorts"👑 and was a very good boy throughout!

Did you know? Well-behaved dogs are always welcome on our walking tours, so your furry friend can enjoy a trip through history too. 🐾

🗓️ We currently offer 5 different guided walks from the museum, so be sure to check our walks calendar to find the perfect tour for you!

♿️Unlike some of our other walks, the Victorian Llandudno & Beyond Walk is full wheelchair accessible.

Last week, Llandudno Museum was delighted to welcome Val Conway, who raises funds for Shine in memory of her late daughter, Susie. Fondly known by many in Llandudno as “Susie Sunshine”, Susie had spina bifida and was remembered for her warmth, positivity, and ever-present smile.
Val visited the museum dressed as a daffodil, bringing a bright and uplifting presence to the day while helping to raise awareness of Shine, the UK’s leading charity supporting people affected by spina bifida, hydrocephalus, and related complex conditions affecting the brain and spine.
It was a pleasure to welcome Val and to hear about the inspiring legacy of Susie Sunshine. We are grateful for the opportunity to support awareness of Shine’s important work and to share this meaningful story with our visitors.

☀️ ON THIS DAY: June 21, 1864
Imagine swimming in heavy, water-logged wool. 🥵 162 years ago today, British Olympic pioneer John Hulley said enough!
From his room at Llandudno’s St George’s Hotel, he published a radical letter demanding practical sea-bathing dress so people could swim safely. 🌊
The Tourism Twist: The local town council loved it. They realized being a leader in modern bathing practices would bring a massive boom in visitors to Llandudno! 💸
The Legacy: This forward-thinking mindset paved the way for Hulley to bring his grand Olympic Festivals right here just a year later on July 22, 1865. 🏆
Next time you pack a comfy swimsuit, thank John Hulley (and the business-savvy town council) for starting the revolution! 🩳✨

What a fantastic sight today as the iconic Waverley Paddle Steamer visited Llandudno! 🚢

Waverley is the world's last seagoing paddle steamer and continues to delight visitors around the UK with her historic cruises. This year is especially significant as she celebrates 80 years since her launch.

🛡️ Object of the Month: The Buckler Shield
Discovered at Caerhun in the Conwy Valley in 1799, this small buckler (approx. 13 inches in diameter) was first thought to be Roman or early British. However, it was later identified as a form of defense widely used by infantry during the latter half of the 15th century.
Fast Facts:
Extremely Rare: There are only 31 known to exist, made between 1440 and 1580.
The Design: It features a hand strap to be carried in the soldier's hand rather than strapped to the arm.
The Purpose: It was used by soldiers on foot in close combat.
Royal Choice: The buckler shield was one of King Henry VIII's favorite pieces of personal armor.

Would you like to support your local museum, meet new people, learn new skills and help preserve Llandudno's fascinating history?

Llandudno Museum & Gallery is currently looking for new volunteers to join our friendly team.

While all applications are welcome, we are particularly interested in hearing from people with:
🏛️ Customer service or reception experience
😊 Confidence speaking with visitors and the public
📄 An interest in helping distribute promotional materials and leaflets
🤝 A friendly, welcoming attitude and willingness to learn

No previous museum experience is necessary – training and support will be provided.

Whether you can spare a few hours a week or more, we'd love to hear from you!
