The New Glyn Valley Tramway and Industrial Heritage Trust

We preserve the heritage and tell the stories of the Glyn Valley Tramway & the industries of the Ceiriog Valley it once served. Entrance is FREE.

Our museum visitor centre is located in Glyn Ceiriog, NE Wales. Our museum visitor centre is established in the original Glyn Valley Tramway engine shed at Glyn Ceiriog and on a substantial part of the adjacent former station site and nearby coal wharf. We care for and display a large and expanding collection of items associated with the former Glyn Valley Tramway and industries of the Ceiriog Valley that the tramway served from 1873 until its closure in 1935. We're open from February to mid-December on Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays. Open times are 10am to 4pm (March to October) and 10am to 3pm (November, December, February). Donations are invited. On-site parking, impaired mobility access and toilet facilities are available.

It was a delight to welcome the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Jeremy Kent, to our Museum on Saturday and to show him the heritage objects collection and around the site.

An early 20th century postcard view of Pont Hafodgynfawr on Maybury Avenue, taken from the riverbank alongside the former Tramway Coal Wharf.

The bridge was widened and rebuilt in 1993.

Come and discover more historical views of the village in our museum archive at the Old Tramway Engine Shed, open this Saturday 10am to 4pm.

The Annual General Meeting of our charity members takes place this coming Saturday 19th September in Glyn Ceiriog.

The Museum will be open from 10am as normal, but will be closed from 1.50pm until 3.30pm while the meeting takes place.

Light refreshments will be available from 11am. We look forward to seeing our members who are able to attend.

Our industrial heritage Museum in Glyn Ceiriog is open today from 10am to 4pm.

Come and meet our resident "trammer" and discover the story of horse-drawn slate wagons in the valley.

If you're in the area, why not also visit Chirk Castle NT/YG Castell Y Waun for the historic Battle of Crogen re-enactment this weekend.

The Chirk Fishery Company was formed in 1900 and built a trout hatchery alongside the River Ceiriog between Pontfaen and Castle Mill, still a thriving concern today under new ownership with fishery, smokery and farm shop.

The Glyn Valley Tramway laid in a short siding to assist with construction which remained in situ until the tramway closed in 1935.

Live fish for stocking ponds, lakes and watercourses elsewhere were dispatched to customers via the GVT and GWR in water-filled milk churns!
