After a long period of bucket emptying, fundraising and contractors, we are OVER THE MOON to share that Minerva Arts Centre has a new roof!! A very sturdy one at that!

Getting here has been a huge community effort, starting with our fundraising in January, our Raise the Roof event in February and support from our members, supporters and community - Llanidloes Town Guides, Welsh Heritage Quilters Dol Llys Housing Coop, and many individuals and businesses. Thank you to Gwendoline and Margaret Davies Charity - we raised just under £12,000. Thanks also goes to Powys Council's Transforming Towns for awarding us their grant.

Seeing people come together and offer their support (and shoulder when times were tough!) shows us what The Quilt Association and Minerva Arts Centre means to our town and region. From the Trustees, staff and volunteers, a huge thank you to everyone who supported us reach our goal.

The final 'making good' will be happening during the down season of the winter times ready for spring next year.

Just back from a retreat in Vermont, will be joining us to lead one of her inspiring workshops in fabric collage and hand stitching this October! This workshop focuses on making a charming textile bird which can be pinned to a larger piece of work or a vintage quilt to combine old and new textiles in a truly personal way.

Suzette will be sharing her creative process and demonstrating how to build a beautiful collage background using a mix of fabrics. You’ll then choose from a selection of bird templates, or, if you prefer, sketch your own design to bring to life.

The first Quilt Conservation Club of the autumn. This month we documented 3 acquired quilts, 2 of which were from America and one which was as local as you can get - made from shirting flannel made at Bridgend Mill in Llanidloes.

Digging into the history of these quilts makes them come alive! 2 of the quilts came some provenance. The middle quilt belonged to the secretary of the chairman of , having travelled the world with him in the 1930s. It is made from a cross stitch quilt kit and the material would have been pre- printed with the design. It was cross stitched first and THEN quilted. How many hours of work do you think that would have been?

Today we'll be diving into some of our new donations to document incoming quilts for our collection of over 300 antique and heritage quilts as part of our Quilt Conservation Club.

We've acquired several new quilts over the last few months and with the exhibition haven't had time to document them so we can't wait to get into them today!

Donations of quilts is one of the ways our collection grows. Sharing these quilts and their history is how we celebrate Welsh quilting and inspire a new generation of quilters!

This weekend we are joined by .oleary for her new workshop on Ancient Stones and Landmarks. This 2 day course will focus on mixed media, introducing you to using monoprint and batik using hot wax on tissue and fabric!

We are really looking forward to Jenny returning to Minerva Arts Centre for this workshop. There are just 2 places left on this weekend course!

The main way our collection grows is through donations of quilts. We absolutely love the antique ones which tell us about our history, but recently, we had a special donation of some contemporary quilts designed and made by Pat Storey.

Pat Storey's series of Geometric Quilts is based firmly in Mathematics and celebrates Fractals and Spirals. The quilts use almost every patchwork technique, but particularly Foundation Paper Piecing due to it achieving accuracy.

Included in this donation was the entire series of quilts and 2 copies of Pat Storey's book, Geometrical Quilts, which provide instructions on how to make them. These are absolutely stunning quilts and we can't wait to show them! This series is awaiting being documented by our Quilt Conservation Club, but this collection was too special not to share as it came in.
