Community Action Fund Success

I’m please to announce that following recent applications for funding to South Norfolk Council, that over £53,000 has been awarded for local community projects.

The shenanigans at County Hall continue.

The process was definitely rushed, I have been involved in several senior appointments to NCC, including the previous CEO, and it’s always been a very careful process, which involves several stakeholder interviews, psychometric testing and a final interview in person with a politically balanced interview panel. This time there was no testing, only one stakeholder panel, who I’m told did not recommend his appointment, and an interview conducted on Teams for less than an hour, with a panel that was not politically balanced. The panel membership was manipulated by Reform to deliberate exclude the Conservative group. Why? What are they afraid of?
I have put in a Freedom of Information request about the circumstances surrounding the departure of the previous CEO, which I am still awaiting the outcome of, and now into this new revelation.
All opposition parties are deeply worried about the apparent lack of transparency and accountability being displayed by the Reform administration, ably assisted by the councillors from the Gt Yarmouth First/Restore Britain party.
We want the truth because this is bringing the council into disrepute and is damaging staff and members confidence in the leadership of the council.

A MESSAGE FOR BEN GOLDSBOROUGH

That is probably the most disingenuous attack you have ever made on South Norfolk council. Which is saying something, as you are always misrepresenting them and never show any support.

The Conservatives conceived the Hethersett surgery, found the land and provided the funding for the build. They have been behind this project from the start.

You are attacking the wrong organisation, it’s the NHS who are holding this up. Your comments are unworthy and deliberately ignorant.

As for criticising South Norfolk on housing; the housing numbers are set by central government. We have no choice but to comply, we can’t argue about it. It’s YOUR Labour government that have recently doubled the housing numbers. So South Norfolk council are forced to approve more and more houses against the wishes of local communities and to our detriment.

If you really want to use your influence to do some good for South Norfolk, here’s a few ideas:

1. Lobby the NHS to make the decision on Hethersett, so we can get on and build the surgery we promised and that they badly need.

2. Stop YOUR Labour government from dumping huge numbers of extra houses in South Norfolk. Our communities don’t want this and our infrastructure can’t take it.

3. Start working with the local council for the benefit of our residents, rather than against them. This constant sniping and misinformation is unbecoming in someone who is elected to represent us.

Do you think that your unreasonable behaviour makes you look good? No, it just makes you look desperate. From the increase in rhetoric anyone would think there was an election on next year!

Facts are Stubborn things

* £1.2m Fire investment: Not new money. £685k was redirected from the Norfolk Community Fund and £500k from non-Fire reserves. Fire needs proper funding, but community groups shouldn’t have to provide it.
* £924k highways investment: Not new money. Reform removed the existing £11,000-per-councillor highways fund and centralised it. Same money, different control.
* £300k service savings: These involve staff redundancies. We don’t yet know the redundancy/pension costs, the true net saving or the consequences for service delivery.
* £170k “non-essential marketing”: Includes scrapping Your Norfolk magazine and the County Council presence at the Royal Norfolk Show. Political choices, not simply waste.
* New pothole technology: Norfolk was already using specialist mechanised pothole-repair equipment under the Conservative administration. Reform is trialling a different machine, not inventing the concept.
* Maker’s Close: A Conservative administration project. Reform opened something it inherited.
* SEND plan: Initiated under the Conservative administration as part of the Safety Valve requirements, with Norfolk’s contribution already budgeted.
* High Streets Matter: A Conservative initiative which was always intended to expand. Reform’s own document says it has “renewed” the commitment.
* Norfolk Ambassadors: Builds on the Norfolk Business Board established by the Conservative administration.
* Apprenticeships/business support: Already established Conservative administration priorities.
* West Winch & Norwich Western Link: Major Conservative administration projects. Reform’s own document admits it has merely “continued to progress” them.
* Adult social care & SEND reform: Already underway under the Conservative administration. Reform has “continued” the work.
* £6.3m consultancy “saving”: £6.3m was the maximum contract value, not necessarily the amount that would have been spent. What are the actual savings, termination costs and liabilities, and could premature cancellation jeopardise Government compensation for LGR costs already incurred?
* £1.5m contract savings: Which contracts produced these savings? The review into procurement also began under the Conservative administration.
* Reviews/checks/letters: A review isn’t an outcome, a trial isn’t delivery and a letter to a minister isn’t a policy change.
* £42.3m savings: Already contained in the balanced 2026/27 budget inherited from the Conservative administration. Reform inherited a solvent council with substantial savings already identified.
* The bottom line: Much of Reform’s “100-day success” consists of Conservative projects inherited, Conservative policies continued, existing money moved around and spending stopped.

It isn’t transformation. It’s inheritance — with a Reform label stuck on it.
