Coming next to London:
Nick Grove RSMA
17 June - 3 July

In the second edition of our Summer Feature series, we are delighted to spotlight Nick Grove RSMA.

Predominantly self taught, Nick quickly gained recognition through exhibitions including the London Art Fair and the Affordable Art Fair, alongside mixed group exhibitions across our galleries. His atmospheric paintings of British landscapes and Venetian scenes have become firm favourites with collectors.

We are delighted to announce the 44th
Anniversary Annual Exhibition at our Aldeburgh
gallery, a milestone in our gallery exhibition
programme.

Showcasing a rich selection of Contemporary and Modern British art, the exhibition continues our tradition of presenting
a diverse and engaging collection. While firmly rooted in British practice, the work reflects wider influences, including recent inspiration drawn from South Africa, where the Thompson's family regularly spends time.

For this exhibition, our artists have produced an exceptional range of new pieces, demonstrating the continued vitality of British art across painting, sculpture, and mixed media.

James Harrigan is a painter in the classic Scottish tradition. He applies paint liberally, clearly enjoying the effect of texture as much as colour, yet the brush strokes are light and measured, never clumsy or laboured as so many impasto paintings can be. His paintings are proving as popular in London as in Scotland and his work is always in short supply.

The brevity of the British summer and the vagaries of the weather can restrict this proponent of the plein air technique, so James often looks to the continent to find his trademark cornfields and hedgerows of wild flowers.

Jonathan Robertson is well known in Scotland and England for
his figurative compositions, inspired by a childhood
spent in Banff, Scotland.

His paintings are of the fishermen, farmers, crofters and fruit pickers who seek their livelihoods from the land and the sea. Jonathan’s paintings capture a timeless quality of hard work, thrift, good humour and celebration.

Stuart Buchanan's paintings are easily identifiable. His art work displays a recurring theme of solitude. This is not to suggest his paintings are lonely, but rather a celebration of peace and serenity.

Stuart creates a world of peace and refuge away from the day to day of the outside world. His paintings depict mostly single figures and pairs and all share an enviable meditative state. The figures are often involved in an activity beyond the canvas and the viewer - such as gazing out to sea or at the stars, or daydreaming. He draws inspiration from his own childhood memories and experiences, as well as more current day to day life and the environment and landscapes that surround him.
