Opening today from 2pm!

Silvia Ziranek BY A THREAD
incorporating UNSUNG SONGS 1 May - 5 July 2026
Opening Event: Sunday 31 May 2pm - 4pm
Readings at 2.30pm and 3.40pm

MOCA London is pleased to present new work by Silvia Ziranek, a well-established multi-media artist with a strong performance art focus. She has performed across the UK, Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, including at the Venice Biennale; Tates Modern and Britain; Georges Pompidou Centre, Paris; Modern Art Oxford and Plug-In, Winnipeg.

Ziranek’s project at MOCA London comprises BY A THREAD incorporating UNSUNG SONGS, a multi-media exhibition combining beautifully and economically made sculpture and the written word. BY A THREAD is a new, large scale (over 10 foot) mobile that will dominate the gallery space, making ingenious use of everyday materials, combining text with textiles (carpet tiles, wallpaper, picture frames). Through poetry, text-in-textiles, and installation Ziranek addresses violent, abusive behaviour towards women and girls and focuses on offering strength through solidarity and acknowledging others’ experiences by finding words and ways of opposing emotional and physical abuse.

B.A.T. is a monumental mobile suspended from the gallery ceiling. It displays textile panels containing single words and phrases from UNSUNG SONGS; a wall text ‘THE MY SCAR’; and an audio recording of the 15 SONGS. Derived from personal experience Ziranek’s poems, always spoken (never sung) address vulnerability, aggressive male hierarchy and emotional un/intelligence. Ziranek hopes to empower women and girls by creating a provocative arena for contemplation.

With 12 Haiku by Yuzo Ono
Tuesday 12 May 2026
6 pm - 7.30pm

Marisa Culatto and Yuzo Ono first met a few years ago through a collaboration on a visual art and haiku exhibition organized by a London gallery. Their initial conversations developed into a dialogue, during which Ono expressed a particular interest in Culatto’s 12 Untitled works. From this exchange, the idea for this book was born: Ono would compose twelve haiku, each responding to one of Culatto’s twelve Untitled pieces. These works were originally commissioned by MOCA London as part of their 2020 WE (Web Exhibitions) program.

Rafael Escardó
Scaffolder
29 March - 25 April 2026
Opening Event: 29 March 2pm - 4pm
Performances: 2:30pm & 3:30pm

Rafael Escardó’s exhibition Scaffolder at MOCA London is a material exploration in which the body becomes a vessel for constructed identity.

During the opening event, Escardó and two dancers will perform on the stairs of MOCA London. Through repetition, bodily adjustments, and choreographed performative gestures, their actions draw attention to subtle, mundane movements. They embody passersby or workers navigating their bodies between concrete structures and human connections. Escardó observes these forms and materials while always positioning them in relation to points of the body and the constructions that surround us. Through this approach, he creates a dialogue between subjective, moving human experience and the objective, functional built environment.

At the centre of MOCA London is Pectoral, Stack of 3 stands, a scaffold construction with stacked sculptures whose shapes reminisce about shields or biomorphic forms, as if grown out of scientific research. Suspended and secured by the scaffolding, the repetition of the three sculptures suggests the beginning of a continuous vertical stacking.

Escardó establishes playful, yet critical connections between material and the human body. In Scaffolder, a performative dialogue unfolds between the stacked sculptures—functioning as vertebrae of the rising structure—and the interlinked performers, whose bodies morph into steps and bridges. Human forms become constructed building blocks, while architectural materials take on bodily presence.

*JUST ANNOUNCED*

Rafael Escardó
Scaffolder
29 March - 25 April 2026
Opening Event: 29 March 2pm - 4pm

Rafael Escardó’s exhibition Scaffolder at MOCA London is a material exploration in which the body becomes a vessel for constructed identity.

During the opening event, Escardó and two dancers will perform on the stairs of MOCA London. Through repetition, bodily adjustments, and choreographed performative gestures, their actions draw attention to subtle, mundane movements. They embody passersby or workers navigating their bodies between concrete structures and human connections.

The role of the scaffolder is to erect, modify, and dismantle temporary structures that provide safe access for workers. Here, the sculptures and scaffolding appear suspended in time, where mass production is momentarily on hold. The steel structure of the scaffolding safely carries the sculptures like a temporary support system. Escardó merges the aesthetics of rough concrete with the curving silhouettes of the sculptures. Like stacked bodies, an erotic tension emerges between the contrasting materials.

MOCA Movements 2026 marks the inaugural edition of MOCA London’s dance and movement screening and exhibition programme. This initiative presents a curated selection of films centred on dance and movement by a diverse range of artists and choreographers. The works will be projected onto the front windows of MOCA London and will also be made available for viewing on the website.

The choreographic video works featured in the programme extends movement and dance beyond the traditional theatre context. Created specifically for the screen, they offer viewers an intimate encounter with the dancing body in dialogue with architectural and spatial environments. The moving body both articulates and disrupts space, drawing attention to surrounding details. The pieces are addressing themes about the environment, the political body, healing, and the lived experience of dance and movement.
