Artwork can also be purchased directly from our website, the gallery ships internationally. The London Glassblowing Studio and Gallery has been established for over 40 years and is where world-renowned Glass Art pioneer and ambassador Peter Layton creates his work. The Studio is currently in its third home, located on the vibrant Bermondsey Street, SE1 - at the heart of a growing hub of London's f

inest Galleries and Eateries. Leading on from the street, doors described by The Guardian as 'Cathedral-like..' lead up to the cutting-edge London Glassblowing Gallery; a fantastic open plan space with regular exhibitions showing everything about contemporary glass from hot blown work, to cast pieces, to jewellery exhibits. Sitting behind the Gallery is the Studio/Workshop, where the vast team of renowned artists blow the work using the wide array of blowpipes, hot furnaces, the Glory-hole, the Kilns, and at a safe distance, a section for the public and passers by to sit and watch the beautiful act of blowing glass live. Behind the scenes is a cold workshop where all the cutting, polishing and finishing takes place. London Glassblowing works somewhat as a collective, in which Peter Layton nurtures talent by inviting artists to work and blow for London Glassblowing, in return receiving an unrivalled space to blow and exhibit their own work. Cymba, Latin for boat, takes its name from the moment light finds water.

Not the surface itself, but what happens to it. The shimmer. The shift. The way a reflection never quite holds still.

Tim achieves this through the ancient technique of battuto, an ancient technique of cutting directly into the glass, facet by facet, until the surface fractures light the way water does. The colours beneath seem to float, appear suspended, as if seen through a slow ripple. Move around it, and the glass moves with you.

At 88, Peter Layton stands at the heart of London Glassblowing - a lifetime devoted to building something truly extraordinary. His vision and direction continue to shape the studio, carried forward by a team whose skill, care, and dedication bring that legacy vividly to life.

Captured by TJ Dibble across both the hotshop and coldshop, these images offer a glimpse behind the scenes, the heat, the precision, and the quiet focus of makers deeply connected to their craft.

A huge thank you to the entire London Glassblowing team for bringing this vision to life each day with such passion, incredible craftsmanship, and unwavering dedication.

You can visit our gallery and watch the artists at work in our hotshop/studio:

Hanne Enemark & Louis Thompson making Ore in our studio.

They've worked together since the Royal College of Art, and it shows - there's a fluency to how they move around each other, passing molten glass between them while placing glass strands within the hot form.

What you end up with is this tension between a calm exterior and something much more complex inside.

A new collection is currently available - DM us to enquire.
