We are delighted to announce the four winners of the Brown Hart Gardens Open Call for Public Sculpture that we launched in partnership with Stoneman Collins, Art Advisors, curators of the project for The Beaumont Mayfair: Ebru Dosecki MRSS, Jordi Raga, Tom Mulholland MRSS and Vincenzo Muratore MRSS

Today we are featuring all four artists so please meet Jordi Raga whose reaction to the news was as follows:

'For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a sculptor is the opportunity for my work to be experienced by the public, freely and within the fabric of everyday life. It is therefore a great pleasure to see my sculpture “Achilles Heel” selected for public display at Brown Hart Gardens in Mayfair. I would like to thank Lisa Edwards, Curator at Grosvenor, Richard Faber, Georgia Stoneman and Lizzie Collins of Stoneman Collins for their trust and support. I hope this initiative sparks curiosity and dialogue, and encourages a wider appreciation of sculpture.'

About the artist:
Jordi Raga studied art in Spain, Italy and Greece, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and a scholarship to study marble sculpture in Carrara in 2001. He spent over a decade developing his stone-carving practice and working in heritage restoration across Europe before settling in Oxford, UK. His engagement with historical architecture expanded an initially organic approach towards more constructive and geometric explorations of stone. His work reflects years of movement between cultures and geographies. He is currently developing more sustainable approaches to sculpture while addressing social, political and environmental concerns through the juxtaposition of materials, forms and ideas.

We will feature all four artists today so please meet Rob Mulholland MRSS who reacted to the news as follows:

'I am extremely pleased to have my sculpture One Flock chosen by the selection panel to be exhibited at the prestigious Brown Hart Gardens location in Mayfair. This is a great opportunity to share my work over the coming year with the local community and visitors to the gardens and look forward to seeing it fully installed.'

About the artist:
Rob Mulholland [ born Glasgow ] graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1986. He has exhibited work throughout the UK and Internationally. His practice explores the complex relationship between humans and the natural world. Many of his works incorporate mirrored surfaces to reflect the given environment and alter the viewers perception of the space.

He is interested in the theories of order and chaos and he has interpreted this theme with sculptures such as Skytower, Evolve and most recently Flection in which kinetic forces appear to have torn through and re-shaped the sculptural forms.

We are delighted to announce the four winners of the Brown Hart Gardens Open Call for Public Sculpture that we launched in partnership with Stoneman Collins, Art Advisors, curators of the project for The Beaumont Mayfair: Ebru Dosecki MRSS, Jordi Raga, Rob Mulholland MRSS and Vincenzo Muratore MRSS

We are featuring all four artists today so meet Vincenzo Muratore MRSS who has said about this opportunity:

'I spent years hiding things inside marble. Now my work stands in the open, in Mayfair, for a year. The Sage knew only lights I controlled; London offers one I cannot. Daylight will find the cut, winter lengthen its shadow, rain darken the stone. The light becomes the subject, and the garden it touches. Walk around it: the unexpected appears, another view. I came from Sicily carrying stone as a language; London adopted us both. Being chosen means someone read it. Thanks to Stoneman Collins, Grosvenor and The Beaumont Mayfair. Perhaps, why not, the city will finish the work.'

About the artist:
Vincenzo Muratore is a Sicilian sculptor and poet based in London. After studying social sciences for international cooperation, he took an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art (2024). His grammar of repair joins salvaged marble, robotic milling and cyanotype across sculpture and performance: thresholds between concealment and revelation. Winner of the Arte Laguna Prize 2025, with residencies in Carrara and Chengdu, he has exhibited across the UK and Italy and realised public commissions. A Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors, he is Artist in Residence at Mulryan Gallery and lectures at the University of East London.

Starting with Ebru Dosecki MRSS we will feature all four artists today. This was Ebru's reaction on hearing the news of being selected:

'I feel deeply honoured that The Kiss has been selected as one of four works to be exhibited at Brown Hart Gardens in Mayfair. Since moving to London, I have been gradually finding a place for my practice within the city, so seeing my work become part of its public space feels especially meaningful. Kiss explores the fragile moment when two separate forms move towards connection. I am excited that it will now encounter people in their everyday lives, creating its own quiet relationships with each passer-by.'

About the artist:
'I make sculptures that explore what exists between things. I am less interested in creating objects than in creating relationships—between painting and sculpture, image and object, surface and volume, clarity and ambiguity. Geometry is the visual language of my work, but never its subject. I use it to build compositions that remain open, allowing different readings to emerge through movement, light, and changing viewpoints. Rather than offering fixed meanings, I want each work to reveal itself gradually through the viewer’s experience. Colour is an essential part of my sculptural language. '

Applications for the 2027 GBA programme close on Tuesday 13 October 2026.

The Gilbert Bayes Award for early career sculptors is given annually by the Society to a small group of outstandingly talented sculptors. The award is open to sculptors of any age or nationality, with or without formal training and working in any style of media.

If selected, you will take part in a year-long mentoring programme designed to support you in navigating the realities of being a professional artist.Rather than focusing solely on developing artworks, sessions address the practical aspects of sustaining a career: positioning your work, accessing opportunities, building networks, and engaging with the wider art world.

Please note that we often experience high volumes on the last day and no extensions are possible so if you wish to apply for the 2027 programme, apply as soon as you can.

The Gilbert Bayes Award is given annually by the Society to a small group of outstandingly talented sculptors. It is an opportunity open to sculptors of any age or nationality, with or without formal training, and working in any style or medium. This award is generously supported by the Gilbert Bayes Charitable Trust.

Award winners receive a year of professional development (including talks from guest speakers working in commercial galleries, art charities and private collections), a free year's membership of the Royal Society of Sculptors and inclusion in a group exhibition. Award recipients will also have the chance to apply for member-only opportunities.

The guest judge for the Gilbert Bayes Award 2027 is Kate Davies, arts strategist, consultant and collection expert whose experience includes the Government Art Collection and the Roberts Institute of Art where she was Director (2019-2026). Kate is a Trustee at Site Gallery, Sheffield.
