Armstrongโ€™s ๐˜๐˜ฏ๐˜ง๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜บ series is an extensive body of work photographed since 1997. It includes a wide range of portfolios, from figurative to abstract, which are made using a unique process of photographing found images with the cameraโ€™s focusing ring set at infinity. This is the first time that the complete ๐˜๐˜ฏ๐˜ง๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜บ series has been seen together. โ

Created using hand-coated papers, photographic fragments, adhesive, varnish, wax and pigment, the works resist classification. โ

Photographs dissolve into paintings taking on the presence of sculptural objects. Their surfaces recall the carved and inked textures of Japanese woodcuts, particularly those rooted in Buddhist print traditions.โ

The Starns draw on this spirit through their own layered process, where images are assembled, erased and remade, interrupting detail, smoothing tonal range, scraping away form, until what remains is an image which is felt as much as seen.โ

National Academy of Sciences in DC has a group exhibition up through May next year.
โ€œOne does not photograph something simply for โ€˜what it isโ€™, but โ€˜for what else it isโ€™โ€ - Minor White Drawing from the art collection of the National Academy of Sciences, this exhibition explores how metaphors can be powerful tools for discovery, and help us see the familiar in unfamiliar ways, spark insight and open doors to new ways of thinking.
Unfortunately the building is closed to the public, but you can contact them for a private tour possibly.

This body of work is part of Armstrongโ€™s ongoing investigation into perception and the photographic image, created through a unique process of shooting out-of-focus photographs to produce a soft, painterly effect. โ

In ๐˜๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ #65, the blurred contours invite the viewer to consider not only the subject, but the space between clarity and ambiguity. The work resists easy interpretation, encouraging a slower, more reflective form of looking. โ

We are excited to be showing work by Oli Kellett who will be exhibiting work from his series ๐˜š๐˜ฐ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ ๐˜‹๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ด. โ

๐˜š๐˜ฐ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ ๐˜‹๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ด is Kellettโ€™s daily drawing practice documenting a bar of soap on a soap dish, and recording the minute day-to-day changes as it gets smaller until eventually disappears. Once gone, the process begins again with a different soap on a different soap dish. โ

Inspired by artists On Karawa, Peter Dreher, Hanne Darboven and Roman Opalka, this exercise is an observation into time passing and how repetition, ritual and discipline can shape a life. Kellett is interested in humanity and the cycle of life and his work has a strongly meditative element to it, inspired by his own interest in Eastern religions and spirituality. โ
