Lee Kang So (b.1943, Daegu), "Untitled 75031", 1975 - one of Korea’s foremost contemporary artists at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea today.

Since the 1970s, Lee Kang So has worked across photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation and performance to develop a highly experimental practice that has profoundly shaped the evolution of Korean contemporary art.

He began his career staging avant-garde performances and installations, and his international reputation was cemented at the 9th Paris Biennale in 1975.

Tonight, I attended the opening of "Bright Moon" — - Sebastián Espejo's first solo exhibition in Seoul, presented by Sun Gallery, Seoul, and McCaslin Art Advisory.

The exhibition takes as its point of departure a classical Korean sijo poem by Hwang Jini — the waxing and waning of the moon, light briefly saturating a space, then receding. Eighteen new paintings sit in that threshold between transience and permanence, memory and depiction. Quiet, authoritative, and completely absorbing.

Iain Robertson's accompanying essay draws a thread — from Clara Peeters to Korean moon jars, from Chardin to the poet Ki Hyung-do.
"Bright Moon" follows Sebastián's London show "Lustre" earlier this year, and the group exhibition last September at Sun Gallery, " The Way We Live Now".

Roza Horowitz's new painting "Thérèse Raquin" — named for Zola's unforgettable, doomed heroine — arrives today, on International Women's Day. 🌊

Three figures in a boat. A moment suspended between desire and destruction. Roza's signature impasto brings an almost unbearable physical urgency to one of literature's most transgressive women.

What drew Roza to this story is Zola's devastating insight: Thérèse and Laurent were not murderers — they were simply people who lived entirely for their instincts. And yet guilt, once born, cannot be outrun. It is that eternal weight — ending only in double su***de — that gives the story its power.

The women who were punished for wanting too much.
