Atmosphère Chromoplastique, is an acrylic on wood piece by Luis Tomasello from 1975. He was represented by the famous avantgarde Galerie Denise René and showed at numerous national and international exhibitions of Op-Art, including the landmark show 'La Lumière et le Mouvement' (1967). The artist was one of the driving forces of Kinetic Art, an art form founded on the optical illusion of movement and its effect on the viewer. It’s recognition very much derived from this particular work, which is available as part of our permanent collection here at 18 Davies Gallery.

This Bruno Moinard coffee table is another outstanding piece in the galleries permanent collection. Walnut with varnished veneers of Macassar ebony held by a brass base is a fine representation of Moinard’s ability to play with space and light. His work hosts international dialogue, and ties him strongly to spiritual and symbolic references of Eastern culture. This coffee table is of no exception, its clean lines and colour give life to purity, culture and what will endure beyond the trends of today.

An icon of Finnish functionalism, Blomstedt devoted her life to architecture and design. Noted for her total commitment to her work, she would design all aspects of her buildings, right down to its furnishings. These two armchairs display the functional yet sophisticated nature of her designs.

Hélène de Saint Lager is a graduate of the Ecole du Louvre and holds a licence degree in art history. Her artistic career has included painting restoration, millinery creation, sculpture, casting, and metalwork. For the past fifteen years, Hélène has been creating an extensive range of compelling works in her home-studio-laboratory on the outskirts of Paris. They are infused with her distinctive aesthetic, a blend of potency and airiness rooted in use of familiar materials in unexpected ways. A tireless exploration of how substances catch and redirect light that leads to magnetic, uncanny works of art.

Come and view one of her single aluminium side tables at 18 Davies Street, reopen January 5 – 11 2019.
