Richard Price and America’s Revolution: evening talk with Sir Roly Keating at Newington Green Meeting House, June 25th 2026

Given from the same spot where Richard Price used to preach as one of this Meeting House’s early Ministers, this talk will explore and celebrate the ideas of one of the most remarkable thinkers of his day, whose ideas were an important influence on the Founding Fathers of America.

Richard Price was a philosopher, mathematician, scientist, non-conformist preacher and political radical whose remarkable circle of friends included Benjamin Franklin and Mary Wollstonecraft. He was a passionate advocate for the American Revolution, and provoked both controversy and admiration when he published a bestselling pamphlet on the subject in February 1776 (Reflections on Civil Society…and the War with America).

In the run-up to the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence, this event offers a chance to bring Price’s distinctive voice and ideas back to life, and to reflect on their relevance to contemporary and still-urgent debates about freedom, rights and society, including in America itself.

Sir Roly Keating is a former Chief Executive of the British Library, Controller of BBC Two and founding Controller of BBC Four. Since 2023 he has lived in the house on Newington Green which was home to Richard Price himself from 1758 to 1787.

The Animation Show of Shows – the premier North American showcase for animated short films – brings its 23rd annual edition to London with a screening at the Newington Green Meeting House on May 16th.

Featuring 14 award-winning films by some of the most acclaimed directors in the world of animation, the programme offers the rare opportunity to see 11 rarely screened classic masterpieces that have won Grand Prizes at international festivals around the world. Afterwards there will be a Q&A with Ron Diamond, the curator, who will join us on Zoom from California.

A HAPPY HOUR in dark days and a SPEAK OUT for freedom - 1st May, Newington Green

Come raise a happy glass to the power of gathering in community while raising our voices in defiance of authoritarian powers working to restrict freedoms.

Tammy WhyNot and Arts on the Green are taking Fall of Freedom global this May 1st. Fall of Freedom is a US-based "focused, urgent call to artists and arts institutions across all sectors to make art, music, plays, exhibitions, comedy, and beautiful protests aligned with immigrants’ rights organizing, to amplify struggles against repression and state violence".

In London, the international version will happen on the same day at the Newington Green Meeting House. All are welcome.

Creatives, performers, community members, readers, and other assorted artistes and London dwellers will assemble here to speak, perform, celebrate, rest, love, and care for each other on the evening of May 1st. It's a day known variously for festivity, for liberation from tyranny, for gatherings of many Queens (of May), and much else. So it's the perfect day to imagine, and create, the path from our current darkness to a future of unchained midsummer light.

We're delighted to partner with Ryan O'Riordan to bring a year-long series of workshops at our Upper Street venue.

Unify our Voices is a new series of workshops where amazing workshop leaders bring their passion, heritage and traditions and sheer talent to London. Exploring how singing can be used to tackle division and forge a path forward. So step into the space with an open mind, and join us as we sing to a better understanding of each other and our shared humanity.

On April 25th we'll welcome Yasmine Latkowski.

She is a composer, performer and vocal teacher, known for blending diverse cultural influences into her music and creating meaningful connections across various platforms. Inspired by her dual heritage and the captivating melodies of Middle Eastern music, she embarks on a musical adventure, composing work from Global Documentaries to immersive theatre, embedding communities in Wales. Yasmine works with Arts Council Wales on their Cynefin, culturally and ethnically diverse Wales school programmes and has worked with Community Music Wales to sing with refugee and asylum seekers. She has ran the multicultural choir wrexham and supports diversity in Wales through her song workshops, some of which include Narberth Acapella Voice Festival.

In her upcoming band project “Panedeni,” Yasmine blends Welsh and Arabic language and musical influences, working with a variety of musicians in Wales and Birmingham. Panedeni are due to release their first EP, Atamanaa in July 2026 with Sionci, Ty Cerdds artist led label.

We’re screening “On Akka’s Shore” by Umama Hamido. Join us on Friday 30th January 2026 at 7pm.

On Akka’s Shore by Umama Hamido is a film, a fictional memoir of Umama and her friend Tareq Al Jazzar based on hallucinations, dreams and out-of-body experiences. Scenes slip between Akka in Palestine, a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, (Beirut) Umama’s city of birth, and London (their current home).

On Akka’s Shore takes us on an exploration of the chaos of memory in relation to personal and collective history.

“Yesterday I dreamt that I was flying over the streets of Beirut. I was my camera, my body and my eye and all of me was one with the lens. You asked me how it was. I told you, the feeling resembles everything in it. Do you think places get stuck in time when we leave them?” – Umama Hamido.

The London Short Film Festival (LSFF) is coming to Newington Green Meeting House next month!

Join us for a special screening on Wednesday January 28th 2026 entitled “A Raised Voice, Amplified”.

Shifting between experimentation and mistranslation, transparency and legibility, these films interrogate modes of speaking and listening. Here, access is a practice: negotiated in dialogue, shaped by communications technology and examined intimately. Crossed wires, soap-opera fragments, military exercises, and captioning labour collide, as lip-reading becomes a mode of resistance and play.

Films by directors Lucy Clout, Jenny Brady and several others will be included in the evening’s line-up.

New arts event just launched: Rob Barron Trio at Newington Green Meeting House, 6th Feb 2026

We're delighted to welcome the Rob Barron Trio to the Newington Green Meeting House.

Pianist Rob Barron studied Jazz at the Leeds College of Music and after leaving with a BA Hons degree in Jazz studies and the College Award for Outstanding Performance, he moved to London where he gained a Masters in Music Performance at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Since then he has gained the reputation as a first call sideman, highly regarded for his improvisational flair, imaginative arranging ability, innate musicality and a deft touch, revealing influences inspired by Hank Jones, Cedar Walton, Barry Harris, Wynton Kelly and Sonny Clark.

Rob has performed with some of the biggest names in American jazz music such as Phil Woods, Al Jarreau, Benny Golson, Grant Stewart, Patti Austin, Marlena Shaw and John Marshall, toured with vocalist Stacey Kent and saxophonist Dave O’ Higgins and appeared on over 35 album recordings to date.
