From September 1st 2011 until the end of December 2014, the space and idea known as Cultivate operated from a gallery space on a corner on Vyner Street (Bethnal Green, East London). The space was operated as a rather full-on artist-run challenge of a gallery. The sometimes rewarding, sometimes infuriating space was run, on a daily basis, by two artists, Sean Worrall and Emma Harvey. A constant nev
er-closed run of some 112 events, group shows, solo shows and more over a non-stop period of thirty seven very active open-door months. Almost four years was more than enough for us and for the street. At the end of December 2014 Cultivate left Vyner Street and the landlord pulled the building down (we need more expensive flat he said!), Since the start of 2015 we have been taking the ideas and philosophies of Cultivate to new spaces and places, shows in warehouses, under railway bridges, in other galleries and formal spaces, dress maker shops, venues, at dog shows. . January 2017, Vyner Street is history now and Cultivate is evolving in all kinds of ways in all kinds of space. We might one day settle in a new permanent home but for now, until we find the right space, we're happy being nomads and doing things all over this big city of ours.
