It shows five cheerful skeletons and decaying cadavers dancing, playing music, and emerging from a grave. The text below begins ‘morte nihil melius’ (nothing is better than death), emphasising the importance of the Memento Mori (remember that you must die) message offered by the work.⁠

Our experts have over 200 years collective experience in the book world with particular expertise in fine illustrated books from the 15th to the 20th century, travel & voyages, natural history, literature (including modern first editions), children’s books, guidebooks, Hebraica & Judaica and works of Russian interest.

In 2014 we launched Shapero Modern, a modern and contemporary prints department which curates several shows annually on topical themes in our collection.

We also specialise in prints and original works on paper across a broad range of subjects, from antique prints to modern pochoir plates, as well as photographs from vintage photography to modern art photography.

We exhibit at major international art fairs including Frieze Masters and TEFAF (Maastricht & the New York Fall show), as well as renowned book fairs including California, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Melbourne, London, Hong Kong and Boston.
