Charitable trust set up to promote modern Middle Eastern and Arab art and culture, focusing on Palestine.

The P21 Gallery is an ambitious project in the making, to be an independent London-based non-profit making organisation set up to promote modern Arab art and culture with special focus on Palestine. The gallery is located in architect-designed premises in the heart of London’s Kings Cross, near the British Library. It provides contemporary display spaces and installation areas with facilities to b

e used for a range of public functions, from presenting art and performance to running workshops and exhibits for training and education. The gallery has a reference library, meeting room, lecture space and a café. In spite of political and logistical difficulties, Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular see their artistic and cultural activities as one of the binding forces that give Arab societies their identity at a time of fragmentation. But an awareness of the quality and variety of Arab art and culture is absent from Western society. The P21 Gallery will provide a showcase for these activities, bringing Arab artists and their work before a British audience. London is the centre of a thriving modern and contemporary art scene and Arab artists can contribute to that scene through work, which is comparable with – and yet different from – the best contemporary artists in the UK.

TRACES of a Dress — Help Document Palestinian Textiles in the UK Diaspora

Tatreez Collective is launching **TRACES of a Dress**, a project documenting Palestinian dresses, thobes, embroidered panels, head coverings, household textiles, fabric pieces, and other textile objects held by Palestinians in the UK and wider diaspora.

Many of these pieces are kept in private homes and carry family histories, memories, embroidery techniques, and patterns that have not yet been recorded. Through this project, we hope to photograph and document selected textiles, record the stories connected to them, and help preserve these patterns for future generations.

If you have a Palestinian textile at home, or know someone who does, please fill in the short survey:

🎬 Meet the Filmmaker: Lucy Towers

We are delighted to welcome Lucy Towers, director and writer of the ITV documentary Ramadan: A Journey Across Britain, to P21 Film Club.

Lucy is an award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker whose work explores identity, power, and miscarriages of justice. Over the past decade she has reported from more than 25 countries, living and working in places including the United States, Lebanon, and Egypt.

Her investigations have covered stories ranging from abuse in British gymnastics to the UAE’s influence on the Yemeni island of Socotra, the hijacking of British tourists by Saddam Hussein at the start of the first Gulf War, and the uncertain future facing Iraqi translators awaiting resettlement in the US.

Following the screening of Ramadan: A Journey Across Britain, Lucy will join us for a live discussion about the making of the film and the stories behind it, alongside Mohamed Shalaby, producer on the series.

HOSSAM'S PEOPLE - accounts by Hossam Madhoun at Bush Theatre Sunday 15th March 3pm

HOSSAM’S PEOPLE is a staged adaptation of testimonies written by Hossam Madhoun - a theatre maker and Child Protection Programme Manager from Gaza - who lived there until he was forced to leave and continue his work from Cairo, due to the intensification of the genocide.

These accounts describe his lived experiences and the people he encountered during the genocide from October 2023 until the present. This is a public reading event followed by a conversation, and we are honoured, in the unprecedented circumstances of a rare visit to London, to be joined by Hossam Madhoun.

Film Screening

Hear testimonies from Gazans who paint a picture of life and death, desperation and irony,
humour and humanity – all words shared without knowing their fate.
This film is gut wrenchingly painful piece that preserves words that refuse to be forgotten by the destructive forces of occupation and war.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with theatre maker and writer Hossam Al Madhoun,
chaired by Jonathan Chadwick.
