The latest RAF Museum Archive Lecture, “It’s a rum life” - Physical Space and Morale Amongst Royal Flying Corps Scout Pilots by Abby Whitlock, is now online to watch. ✈️📚

In this fascinating lecture, Abby Whitlock explores how shared spaces, recreation, and camaraderie were carefully cultivated within the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War to help maintain morale, emotional resilience, and squadron identity amongst scout pilots.

The talk examines how aerodromes became more than operational bases — serving as places of friendship, support, acceptance, and emotional coping during one of the most dangerous periods of aerial warfare.

This free lecture forms part of the RAF Museum’s Research Lecture Programme.
