“I sometimes wish I had never had to sell a painting. Every painting you make represents the time it was made and how you were feeling and what your influences were... You are never going to feel that way again, so you can never repeat it.”

One of the paintings from Banksy’s Crude Oils series, ‘Girl and Balloon on Found Landscape, 2012’ is set to headline a unique auction by boutique platform Fair Warning, and it’s carrying a pre-sale estimate of $13M–$18M.

Bypassing traditional auction houses, the May 20th sale will use Fair Warning’s app-driven model but with a high-luxury twist: a live, invitation-only event at Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Avenue flagship. The work reimagines Banksy’s most famous motif, stencilled over a discarded, conventional landscape painting.

Expectations are sky-high following the past success of other pieces from the Crude Series, most notably Sunflowers from Petrol Station ($14.5M) in 2021 and Show Me the Monet ($9.9M) in 2020, proving that collectors are willing to pay a premium for Banksy’s “remastered” classics.

The sale arrives as the conversation around Banksy hits fever pitch, fueled by fresh intrigue into his identity and his most recent stunt in central London. With the artist’s current record sitting at $25.4M for the self-shredding Love is in the Bin, this $18M estimate puts the work within striking distance of the all-time top tier. If it hits that high mark, we’re looking at one of the most expensive Banksy pieces ever to hit the market, and potentially a new milestone for the Crude Oils series.

Banksy’s most enduring political power lies not only in the imagery he creates, but in where and how he chooses to deploy it. We saw it again last week with the installation of his latest piece in London.

Swipe through Part I of our series as we decode the unapologetic activism behind some of the artist’s boldest cultural stunts.

Alex Russell Flint knows exactly how to set the atmosphere of a room… and it is always absolutely magnetic!

In ‘Little Creature’, he first drags you in with that intense clash between the deep emerald background and the saturated magenta. And then, as you pay attention to the heaviness of her clothing and crouched posture, in contrast to her delicate hands and strappy sandals, you slowly start to feel the tension.

In this ‘portrait’, you don’t even need to see her face to feel the absolute psychological weight of this piece!

Originally painted in 2019 on the façade of the Venetian Palazzo San Pantalon, ‘Migrant Child’ is perhaps one of Banksy’s most striking works highlighting the global refugee crisis. However, years of exposure to saltwater and humidity had severely damaged the piece, with nearly a third of it already faded.

Now, after undergoing a massive months-long restoration, the piece is back in the city.

The decision to restore it sparked the usual debate: should street art be preserved, or allowed to vanish?

The project, funded by the Italian banking group Banca Ifis (which purchased the palazzo), was eventually greenlit and overseen by the Ministry of Culture.

Works started last summer with the tricky task of literally cutting out a section of the wall to allow for its safe removal and transportation. Finally completed, the restored mural has just been unveiled to coincide with the 2026 Venice Biennale, and is set to “tour” the city’s canals on a floating platform to mark the occasion.

Ifis Art, the bank’s cultural arm, has expressed its commitment to ensuring the piece remains accessible to the public through future free projects. However, whether it will return to its original facade or not remains to be seen.

A century of Sir David Attenborough. 🌍

There is no artwork in our archives more fitting to mark 100 years of this true legend than this portrait by Mark Powell. He literally maps the man onto the world he has spent a lifetime exploring and defending.

This piece is already in a private collection, but it is just too perfect not to share today.

Happy Birthday, Sir David!

While April is historically a quiet month in the art market, this year we got to see incredible results that prove that even in the ‘off-season,’ demand for blue-chip works remains strong.
