This is why horses need great visibility splays when crossing the road

14/03/2026

Just a quick update on the planning application P/22/2223/2 for the road junction opposite us, there is a new consultation period ending on the 24th March for people to write in about the latest design.

Could people email development control reference P/22/2223/2 objecting to the following:

Email address: [email protected]

1. Horse crossing fails to comply with (DMRB) CD143 visibility splays considered the 85th percentile in excess of the 40mph speed limit. LCC highways state on their website that for visibility over 37mph they follow DMRB standards.
2. The proposed Hathern Road link has had the speed reduction measures removed which will create a rat run and thus questions the traffic modelling. LCC highways requested these measure as part of P/14/1833/2 outline permission.
3. The noise levels at Mill Farm exceed the BS standards as confirmed by CBC EHO office Anne Green.
4. Noise report fails to include any modelling of the new junction.
5. Proposed layout impacts the removal of a mature hedge line.
6. The proposed junction impacts the setting of a listed building.
7. The proposed junction impacts the Town Brook and ecology.
8. The proposed light column positions fail to match the latest lighting design.
8. Proposed junction location impacts horse rider safety and the viability of the livery yard business.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All, we are still fighting the proposed road junction opposite our entrance as part of Garendon SUE.

Persimmon Homes have now submitted re-aligning the Hathern Road by moving it approx. 5m away from use. This means over 180Lm of hedge would have to be removed from the motorway all the way past us, It also means it will impact the Town Brook.
We are still concerned that the latest design fails to comply with highway safety, Document CD143 states sight lines of over 211m for horses to cross a 40mph road, currently they are proposing 113m this is almost half the required distance. It will impact ecology and is outside the red line boundary.

Please could you all email in to CBC objecting to this latest proposal.

Isn't it ironic that the Charnwood Borough Council who promotes us on their own Discover Charnwood website, want to allow a major road junction in front of our entrance which would create a very dangerous situation for our visitors!!!!

Before people moan that we aren't open, we will be once the planning application fight is over.
