A perfect combination - a visit to Wilton Windmill and seeing Crofton Beam Engines in steam! Lunch at The Swan Inn Wilton in their garden and that’s a great day out!
Have a look at Visit Pewsey Vale for the Wilton and Crofton walk - you won’t be disappointed!
We are open this bank holiday and in steam on Sunday the 24th and Monday the 25th of May. Come along and see the oldest Beam Engine in the World still in its original location, still doing the job for which it was built, hard at work lifting water 40 feet to supply the Kennet and Avon Canal. Our fiery boiler will be lit to heat water to make steam which in turn drives our two huge beam engines. See the whole process from the boiler being stoked to the engine drivers controlling the 4 story high engines. This is an amazing experience for adults and children alike.
Children can complete our Crofton trail, a prize for every correct entry, they can also use our self guided crafting area, borrow a boiler suit and dress up like a volunteer and colour in our Crofton stain glass window.
Our famous duck race will run both days at 12.35, a prize for first and last duck to reach our bridge.
Visit our Smithy tea room for delicious cake, tea coffee, cold drinks and more.
Our grounds are set in the heart of beautiful Wiltshire and have views across the downs of the canal, the railway and Wilton Water. With the weather forecast set to be good, why not bring a picnic and enjoy Crofton to it's fullest.
