Philip has produced some impressive work for companies and private clients worldwide. Back in 1972 Philip won a competition to design a mural of the History of Steel on Teesside. His entry was so accomplished the architects of the new industrial health centre commissioned him to paint the 7.6 x 2.5 (25ftx8ft) metre mural on the wall of the new foyer. The mural, painted in acrylic paint is still ad
mired today by those who use the building and every new starter joining the steel industry on Teesside. Philip’s style is detailed, he likes to paint movement and atmosphere and working in the steel industry has given him the opportunity to depict hot steel, men and machinery in these vast cathedrals of industry. His portal of perspective gives his paintings great depth and his eye for composition provides a painting you can admire for a long time. As well as industrial scenes, he likes to paint seascapes, landscapes and the odd portrait. So over the coming weeks we will start to see a selection of his work old and new. One project will be the story of his mural, the painting and people he met during that time. Philip is also planning a number of exciting paintings for this year and if they come off we will see at least one major new work on public display in Redcar.
