Marton Museum of Country Bygones

Marton Museum of Country Bygones An eclectic mix of agricultural, rural and household items from ages past all collected by one man, the late George Tims. Now run by Marton volunteers.

A Museum of rural and farming memorabilia that harks back to a bygone era. On show are the numerous tools and equipment once essential to farm workers. Amongst the many exhibits are collections of Cobbler’s, Wheelwright’s and Thatcher’s Tools. Currently, a team of volunteers from the village is working to classify all the museum objects. A Preliminary application has also been made for a Lottery Grant to further develop the Museum space and maintain the collection.

Yes indeed, we have totally refurbished the kitchen display! This is actually the area in our museum which promotes the most discussion as visitors reminisce about their parents, grandparents & increasingly great grandparents.
Your mystery object is a mould for making jelly or blancmange, if you fancied individual portions with a lion on!
The volunteers look forward to welcoming you over the summer, every Sunday afternoon 2-4pm, starting 31st May

Volunteers had their last 'official' meeting of the year this morning. We now have a list of jobs to do while we are closed during the winter months. Tasks include labelling, cleaning, redoing and sorting displays and also some maintenance work on the building. We have to hope it is not too cold as the Museum does feel cold inside in the winter.
The ex-Leamington Hastings turret clock has now been liberated from the museum to be restored by a specialist from Bedford who is a member of Turret Clock Group which is part of the Antiquarian Horological Society.
It is a process that will take more than a year. The clock will then be part of their collection.

Tomorrow, 28th September, is the last Sunday Opening of the Museum for this year.
If you haven't visited this year this is your last chance to see our improvements.
Dyan and Judy will be on duty but you may find one or two other volunteers at the Museum.

We had a busy Sunday last weekend with some very interesting and interested visitors. Dyan and Judy will hope for the same this Sunday!

We will be open again on the last Sunday in May 2026. If you really can't wait and can get a few friends together we will open the Museum, for you depending on volunteer availability! Be warned though the Museum does get very cold in the winter and we hope to update some more displays while we are closed
