Over the last 50 years, exploration of the fields of Leicestershire and Rutland has transformed what we know about the area’s archaeology.

To celebrate 50 years of the Fieldworkers we have a special display that explores the discoveries that helped put the region at the forefront of community archaeology in Britain.

The display will run from Friday 12 June to Saturday 31 October.

Visit all different venues across the county to see all the special exhibitions celebrating the archaeology of Leicestershire.

Our Museum Research Volunteers are working on some fantastic projects, and to celebrate we’re highlighting their work! Linda has researched Mrs Francis Pawlett, who was an important local figure in the making of Stilton cheese. Francis was born in 1720 and lived in Wymondham. She is credited with standardising the shape and weight of Stilton. Find out more about the history of Stilton cheese at the museum!
