Q:alliance and MK Museum are joining forces to showcase the MK Q:mmunity Tales Exhibition.
It brings together a vast archive of oral histories, photos and memorabilia that illustrate the richness of LGBTQ+ heritage in our city, and you are invited to pop along and share the joy, heartache, memories and stories that were unearthed by this Heritage Lottery Funded project.
Did you know there was an MK Campaign for Homosexual Equality in the 1970’s that featured on Thames Television, a Le***an and Gay Switchboard in the 1980’s, and a youth group called Youthline in the 1990’s?
Did you know the LGBTQ+ community in Milton Keynes had their own community centres: the Freedom Centre in Neath Hill and Q:Space in Witan Gate in the early 2000’s!
Throughout this time there were many pubs, clubs, ‘gay nights’, ‘lesbian discos’, meals out, sports clubs and walking groups. With all of these come some incredible narratives and memories.
The show will be here at the Museum for three weeks, from Wednesday (June 3) to Sunday, June 21.
