✨ WE’RE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE… ✨

We’re thrilled to welcome contemporary landscape artist Helen Simms to Westbury Arts Centre for an inspiring, one-day workshop: Abstracting the Landscape.

If you feel your paintings are becoming too rigid, tightly controlled, or overly detailed, this day is all about loosening your style, embracing intuition, and unlocking true creative freedom.

🎨 What You’ll Discover

Move Beyond Literal: Learn how to simplify shapes and capture emotion rather than realistic detail.

Master Mark-Making & Texture: Experiment with loose, energetic strokes to build depth, light, and space.

Color & Tone Guidance: Play with harmonious palettes to set the atmospheric mood.

Live Demos & Step-by-Step Exercises: Helen will demonstrate her studio techniques in oils before guiding you through creating your own piece from photo references.

🖌️ Mediums & Experience
Medium: Helen will demonstrate in oils, but participants are welcome to work in Oils or Acrylics! (If using acrylics, just let us know in advance so materials are ready).

Level: Beginners, improvers, and experienced painters welcome! No prior oil painting experience needed.

👩‍🎨 Meet Your Tutor
Based in Buckinghamshire, Helen Simms (MA History of Art, UCL) brings over 16 years of experience as an artist and educator. Formerly a fashion and lifestyle illustrator, Helen now specializes in evocative, semi-abstract oil landscapes that focus on light, space, and stillness. Her warm, supportive teaching style will help you build confidence in your own creative voice.

📍 Location: Westbury Arts Centre, Shenley Wood MK5 6AA

🎟️ Spaces are limited to ensure individual guidance!
