A productive day was had working on 205 yesterday.

First the air filter was replaced, the old air filter wasn’t too bad however it didn’t seem a bad idea to renew it anyway given the bus had been sat for a while before we purchased it.

Then secondly and more importantly both front shock absorbers were replaced. This had been on the to do list since we got the bus as the ride quality at the front was notably poorer than on 629. Having done this job on 629 already we know what to expect now and the removal and fitting of the new shocks on 205 was fairly straightforward. Once the old shocks were removed we were able to inspect them properly which confirmed our suspicions that they were past their best.

With the new air filter and front shock absorbers fitted we took 205 for a short road test. Can safely say it now rides like the Rolls-Royce of buses! A massive improvement in ride quality compared to before.

Significant progress has been made on 623 in recent weeks with almost all of the old floor now lifted.

The next step will be to start the process of descaling the subframe back to bare metal so that anywhere that is requring rectification work can be identifed and put right. With the bus being sat outdoors for around six years with a leaky roof there are various parts of the floor subframe which are not in the greatest condition and will need repaired or cut out and replaced. Notably the area behind the offside front wheel is particuarly poor as this was where there was often a pool of water sitting.

While the floor is up we are also intending to to replace a corroded air tank, various air tank straps, along with replacing the rear airbag top plates, air bags, levelling rods and shock absorbers. With the floor removed it makes access much easier to these items so it seems a no brainer to do it before putting the floor down over those sections.
