Desperate to be a land Army girl, and to be with her friends, Edna, was refused leave from the Slipper factory in Lancaster. Even after approaching a farmer in Heysham, who was happy to take her, her bosses still stopped her. 'That's enough now, you don't go'. Edna's slipper making skills, were clearly something rather special. Her accounts of the local cinemas and standing at the top of the entrance staircase of the Winter Gardens ballroom, where her and her friends could assess which of the RAF trainees were the best dancers, are just a few of her vivid local wartime memories.
Please like and share.

Irene was 14 when the war started, and was immediately working in a textile mill, and volunteering in the fire Service. She saw an aircraft crash into the hill behind her house, and she met her future husband at just 13, but had to wait until 1946 before she met him again!. And although this was more than eighty years ago, her memory is crystal clear. Please watch and enjoy Irene's wartime memories. A Morecambe's D Day & VE day memories film.

MORECAMBE’S D DAY & VE DAY MEMORIES
Two local lads from the LRGS Combined Cadet force enjoyed interviewing Ken Knowles about his experiences of being in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in India during World War II. Please enjoy the film, share and comment. And if you, or anyone you know, have experiences of WWII, we would love to hear your story. Please contact me, David Evans on 07916 980451 or email [email protected]

Ken describes the extensive training, and travelling to India, and across to the North East where he supported the troops fighting in Burma

Morecambe Heritage are pleased to announce our latest project...
'Morecambe's D Day & VE day memories'.
Funded by Heritage Lottery, this project will interview 12-15 local veterans of the second world war. And from the interviews produce summary videos and an exhibition.

We are now on the lookout for anyone old enough to have seen active service during WWII. Whether you were in the armed forces, were a land girl, a Bevan boy, or worked in a factory, we would like to hear your story. If you know of anyone, please email me, David at [email protected], or telephone me on 07916 980451
