Historic Wallyford
Take a step back in time as you walk/cycle the hidden history of Wallyford. From historic industries of coal mining and brick manufacturing to famous footballers, golfers, authors and the largest and last battle between Scotland & England (Battle of Pinkie Cleugh 1547). This route, mostly to the south side of Wallyford, is suitable for walking bikes, buggies with certain parts not suitable for wheelchairs. It will take approximately 2 hours to walk. Should you decide to extend your journey from St Clements Wells Farm to Fa’Side Castle it will add another half hour to you walk and it's a steep incline to get to the castle. This Right of Way (ROW) path from Wallyford to Fa'side Castle has recently been upgraded making it accessible again for walking and cycling, and encouraging renewed public use. If you wish, you can walk this path after you have visited the Bing.
This route is featured on the Mining Landscapes website, this virtual museum explores the rich but often hidden local landscape legacies of coal mining across the Scottish midland coalfield, ranging from Fife to Ayrshire, through a series of cycling and walking routes created by local communities commemorating their industrial history and heritage, and celebrating their sense of place and identity.

The Trustees and Volunteers of Musselburgh Museum are sad to hear of Sheila Henderson’s passing and we send our sympathy to the family.

For many years, Sheila chaired a talented Museum Committee whose wide-ranging research was used to set up excellent exhibitions in Musselburgh’s Old Town Hall. Sheila always graciously addressed the audience at each official opening, at which there were welcome refreshments; enabling people to mix, chat about and discuss whatever they were viewing.

The Museum will always be grateful to Sheila for her years of effort and dedication, for steering the team that led to the opening of Musselburgh Museum in 2011.

Thank you Sheila Henderson.

Musselburgh Twinning Association Exhibition
Champigny-sur-Marne
With a population of over 80,000 inhabitants Champigny-sur-Marne is a town of Val-de-Marne in the French Region of Île-de-France and is located 12.5 Km (8miles) from Paris. Champigny, like Musselburgh, has an important heritage, green spaces and a river - the Marne- running through the town. During the Roman conquest, Romans established a base camp on the loop of the Marne and evidence of that is to be seen in their local museum.
Amongst the many other interesting buildings is the beautiful little Romanesque church of Saint Saturnin, which has recently been carefully restored.
Today, Champigny very much believes in its youth. Colleges work hand in hand with industry on practical projects, where the fresh approach of youth is appreciated. A great community spirit is encouraged and cultivated.

Musselburgh Twinning Association Exhibition

The beginning of twinning

In 1960 a young lady from Musselburgh spent some time on holiday on Champigny-sur-Marne in France. Being enamoured by the similarities between her hometown and that of Champigny she told her father who was a Town Councillor at the time and the seed of a possible twinning was planted.
In 1961, the twinning of the two towns was agreed and signed. A delegation led by Councillor Bill Caird and other dignitaries from Musselburgh were invited to attend ‘A Ceremony of Twinning’ in Champigny.

The museum is open 10.30am - 4pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
