The Museum tells the story of Nantwich through the ages – Roman salt making, Tudor Nantwich’s great fire, the Civil War (including the 1644 Battle of Nantwich), cheesemaking and other local industries. Several beautiful locally made clocks are displayed, a historic fire engine and salt-making equipment.

On Sat 6 June we will be holding a second-hand history book sale at the Museum, starting at 10am (when the Museum opens).
A great opportunity for history buffs...and those who are just curious about history-related topics. Around 300 books will be available. They're excellent quality and were donated to the Museum for sale, with all funds raised going towards the running of the Museum.
The books cover a wide range of topics with a history focus, for example: wars, Christianity, overseas empires, the Crusades, ancient history, polar explorers, the Habsburg empire, and many more.
Arrive early to avoid disappointment!

We're delighted to introduce Caleb White, Nantwich Museum's recently appointed Learning and Engagement Officer. Caleb brings many skills and a range of experience to the role.
Beginning as a visitor assistant at the Vale and Downland Museum in his hometown of Wantage, Caleb has long pursued his love of museums. He studied History and Politics at The University of Sheffield, spending a year in Germany, studying at Eberhard Karls Universitat, Tubingen. Alongside studying, he volunteered at Weston Park and Kelham Island Museums, working alongside their learning and outreach team. Following this, he completed his MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies at The University of Manchester. Here, he worked and volunteered for a number of contemporary art institutions (Castlefield gallery, PINK, Smolensky gallery).
Now at Nantwich Museum, he is excited to bring with him his passions for storytelling and history.
Our staff and volunteers are very much looking forward to working with Caleb.

The Museum's courtyard garden is looking really pretty at present, thanks to the hard work of our volunteer gardening team. We now have trellis in place for plants to grow up and to help conceal the bins! To visit our garden use the step-free access route through the gate on the left side of the Museum.

We were delighted to have received this certificate recently, confirming that Nantwich Museum has met the Art Council's accreditation standards, and are proud of the team effort that went into achieving not only this but also enabling us to run such a busy and vibrant little museum.
We're looking forward to embarking on lots of exciting plans over the next year.

Nantwich Museum was delighted to be able to host a ‘Pint of Science’ event last week (18 May). Pint of Science is an annual worldwide science festival where researchers share their discoveries in informal local settings. Jacco van Loon together with several of his colleagues (Amy Gresham, Peter Lawrence, Charlotte Hulme, Charlie Pilbeam-Bailey, Chris Aris) from Keele University came to the Museum for an evening exploring: “The Deer, the Dead and Degenerative Diseases: scientific impacts on your local environment that you might not expect!”.
Several themes were explored, including forensic science, environmental science, use of AI in environmental monitoring, and cartilage regeneration. A lively and entertaining evening, aligning with the Museum’s support for education and STEM subjects.
