Mrs Smith's Cottage Mrs Smith's Cottage is a precious time capsule of rural life in Navenby, Lincolnshire. This is the story of one woman, in one home, through one century.

Mrs Smith’s presence is felt in every authentic object, as if she has just stepped out for a moment. Mrs Smiths Cottage is open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 12pm to 4pm, with last entry at 3.30pm. To avoid disappointment, please book on our website at mrssmithscottage.com

On this day in 1974... Mrs Smith made 4lbs of apple chutney! What a busy day. 🍎

In the cottage garden stands a cooking apple tree that can be traced back to well before the 1950s. Every year it bears some fruit, the same that Mrs Smith would've used in her recipes.

On this day in 1978... Mrs Smith had workers round to dig the drain for her new indoor toilet.

In the mid 1960s, the cottage was condemned as unfit for human habitation. The addition of the indoor toilet was part of a series of measures that allowed the property to evade demolition.

The cottage eventually went on to become a listed building in 1987. And we are very glad it did!

Today is our annual Apple Day at Mrs Smith's Cottage! 🍎

Come along between 1-3pm, bring your own apples, and have a go at turning your harvest into your own produce to take home. Don't forget your own containers/bottles.

Alongside apple pressing, today there will be apple-themed crafts and Mrs Smith’s famous apple chutney recipe to take away.

Our cottage gardens are free to visit, with standard admission charges applying to the cottage itself.

Don't forget to join us this Saturday between 1-3pm (26th September) for our annual Apple Day at Mrs Smith's Cottage 🍎

If you have any spare apples to donate, these would be gratefully received. Our tree has had next to no crop this year!

Bring along your own apples and clean containers and use our equipment to turn your harvest into fresh apple juice to take home.

Alongside apple pressing, there will be apple-themed crafts and Mrs Smith’s famous apple chutney recipe to take away. We also have jars of chutney made to her recipe for you to buy (amazing with warm bread and cheese...)!

Our cottage gardens are free to visit, with standard admission charges applying to the cottage itself.

We'd love to see you there.

This week, the NavenBees will be looking at all things apples, for our annual Apple Day. 🍎

Bring your little bees along for hands-on learning about our natural world – with stories, crafts, and have-a-go gardening for ages 2-5.
