Our upcoming show, Rooted in Light, explores the quiet poetry of sunlight as it filters through leaves, the beauty of trees and their necessity as a vital ecological balance in our world.
We celebrate the sensory experience that being in nature can evoke, where time seems to slow down amidst the gentle shimmer of light, the soft rustle overhead or the coolness beneath a canopy of trees.

The artists in this show capture the subtle beauty of these moments and invite us to notice things that we might otherwise overlook.

Printmaking is a very skilled. hands-on and often labour intensive form of art practice. Great patience and a tolerance of some degree of uncertainty are required alongside an eye for beauty and balance and mastery of the technical skills involved.

The three artists in our current show, Paul Furneaux. Jo Ganter and Hetty Haxworth, have used all these qualities to create the wonderful artworks currently on view in our show, Pressing Matters, until 30th May.

Guitar Ellipses by Jo Ganter

Jo Ganter works with traditional and new media to produce original limited edition etchings, relief prints, and animations. Her images move from abstract pieces that suggest a sense of real space and light, through a kind of ambiguous representation to pure abstraction. While each suite of images is very different, the artist always works in series and consistently references grids and planes of colour or tone that move parallel to the picture surface creating a shallow depth.

Since 2014, she has worked with musicians to create graphic scores, (images which direct improvised music replacing the traditional music score). These are her most abstract and colourful pieces and lead directly to the work showing at the Tatha Gallery.

Some juicy pairings and groupings from our current show Pressing Matters which features wonderful works by

Paul Furneaux / Jo Ganter / Hetty Haxworth

Bringing together three artists who push the boundaries of technique and tradition, the exhibition explores how printmaking has the ability to translate patterns of sound and movement into two-dimensional compositions that feel alive with rhythm and texture. It also looks at how ideas and emotions can be captured and transformed into layered and textured two-dimensional images with incredible boldness and intensity.

Continues until 30th May
